Rorschach Mask Possible?

Taking orders soon? *squeals like a 10-year-old girl at a Jonas Brothers concert*

Haha, my new ink should be in by Friday or Saturday...if that happens, I'll open a buy thread this weekend. Just keep checking the RPF for big updates. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Have a chance to mess with Scott's sample? I received a sample from him also, but I didn't like it very much. The company I have decided to go with gives a much better effect and doesn't cure so rock solid. Let me know what you have found.

So far the stuff I ordered from the UK is more black when it's dry. Scotts stuff tends to be more purple. ....unfortunately the purple stuff also seems to work better. On a 1:10 mix ratio the purple stuff fades in and out at the same speed as my breath. On a 1:10 ratio with the UK stuff that came in 5ml syringes it fades white pretty quickly but takes forever to fade back to black. I've been experimenting with 3 different types of bases for the paint and so far I'm more happy with clear acrylic than anything else. I still haven't got the recipe about right yet, and yes, stretching/cracking IS an issue.

Ya, Scott's stuff is on the purple side, but that is usually for the paintable/sprayable inks. The screen inks are very thick and dry very black. The only problem is they dry rock solid and crack on a lycra fabric. This is why I went with a different company that provides BEAUTIFUL ink. Good luck on your experimenting!

Oh, hey. I had a question actually!

In a lot of the other heat sensitive masks I've seen videos of, it looked like they had to really work at breathing in order for the ink to react. Do you know if that's gonna be the case? And as far as custom patterns go (I dig original one you're doing, I'm just curious), is there a way for you to estimate how much a certain pattern would cost before printing the ink on?

Also, I just wanted to say it's really awesome that you're doing such a big run of these. Way cool!

The inks I have experimented with give a very nice reaction with normal breathing. When you breath in, you draw heat out of the mask quickly resulting in the black returning. It looks pretty sweet! I'm really excited to get a beautiful prototype video posted!

Kwally, like a bunch of the others here, I've been following your work for a little while now and I've gotta say just how impressed I am. Very, very nicely done. I know you'll be swamped with orders but you can count me in regardless. Keep up the great work - we're all rooting for you 100%!

Thanks bro. It's always nice to have a cheering section to get you back to cutting out masks...it can be extremely boring!

i have been waiting for you!:D
i saw your project on the rpf can i get on your list for one please?

thanks,

jeroen.

Hey buddy,

There is no real "list". I was just gauging interest so I knew approximately the amount of supplies needed. I will be posting a buy thread ASAP because my new inks will be here tomorrow or Tuesday. The order will be determined by the order of payment. So if you pay first, you get the first mask.

Kody

here is a way to make the mask on your own.in the video the fabric he uses is from a tank top but i bet it would look way better using tights or spandex

Neat video...but I would strongly advise against using automotive paints in a Rorschach mask. It is extremely dangerous to walk around a con for hours on end breathing through an auto paint. I have acquired many MSDS's (material safety data sheet) from various companies in my pursuit of the perfect mask. A couple companies that used their inks for industrial applications (thermometers, heat sensors, etc) had formaldehyde in their inks. Anyone with half a brain knows that formaldehyde is NOT GOOD for your body! The inks I am currently using are 100% FDA tested to be toxin free. I would just advise anyone to be REALLY careful and definitely DEFINITELY request a MSDS sheet. Be smart and careful my friend!!!

Definitely following this thread from now on :)

I almost abandoned my Rorshach cosplay due to the vast number that are appearing and while I'd really like to try and make my own moving mask to put me apart from the others I think it would be more expensive and less proffesional than what Kwally is making!

Eagerly awaiting an update on this one!
