here's a question for you paint experts. i hope this hasnt been covered. my search showed nothing.

i've got all the paints RS listed(thanks!!!) and am about to start painting. is there any order i should apply these? most are acrylic but some are enamel.

thanks in advance!

I used Polly scale on my armor and I used the reveal methoot (masking off and sprying layer after layer)

I primed the armor with Primer from a can (not acrylic primer) then I used silver paint from a can, masked off scratches, painted the mustard color on, I used Humbrol enamel paint, again maksed off area were the color should show and finaly I painted the Polly Scale US Med green over.

There is no problem and it has been months.

Some say that you shouldn't mix, but I've been told it won't do any harm. Just make sure the paint is dried before you paint over it. I don't think it matters what order you paint them in.

I'm choosing to go all acrylic since the paint is ALOT easier to clean because it's water based, and enamels are oil!!! *shudder*

thanks guys.

i figured it didnt matter but i dont want my painting experience to end up being a disaster. i did some googling as well and found the same thing.

all i have to do now is get a couple cans of primer and a couple cans of chrome and i'm off!

I feel your happiness man.
My new helmet should arrive in the mail this week (FG Mystery!), and I'll be doing the same thing! :D

I got my airbrush all ready to go. I'll also be priming, then painting with chrome. Do you know if RS uses the chrome reveal method for the dent AS WELL as the scratches on the rest of the helmet?

i'm not sure of RS' technique. i'm sure you can find that out via the thread, but my plan is to use a combination reveal and topical. for the major damage areas i'll mask them using liquid latex. all the little scratches and damage areas i'll do topically with makeup sponges, toothpicks, and needles.

once i get rolling i'll post some progress pics.

I've heard "acrylic over enamel over laquer."

But I've tried every combination of that and found that if the paint is completely dry and evenly coated then it won't make too much of a difference.
