EL sheet source?

A search didn't turn up anything, so I thought I'd post...

Does anyone have a good source for EL sheets? Specifically, I need 2 sheets that are 4" x 4" and blue-green in color. I need to be able to power them via batteries, so I need the inverters/power supplies/whatever as well.

Any help appreciated!

You are in full HIC mode aren't you...

I used to have a source saved in my favorites. I'll see if i can find it for you.

DOH! You figured me out!

If you've got a source, I'd appreciate it!

I found a perfect site. They sell everything, cheap, and are in the US, AND have the right color. BUT... Their website is messed up and won't let me navigate it using the nav bar. :facepalm

Here's the color sheet they sell that I need. Pretty darn close!:

Now to get to molding and casting that side control panel... ;)

Well...Looks like we had the exact same site in mind.

Not sure how long ago it was I saved this, but I'm pretty sure the site used to work. I just remember that I saw the exact same pic you posted and said to myself, "Myself...you have to save this site for future reference."

Have you already got the side panels?

If so where did you get them? I have been looking for a cheap way to do these without just building the things myself. I saw the thread on the RPF by MicDavis, I think, but thats just too pricey for me.

If I could just get one for reference I would gladly scratchbuild one of my own and go from there. Its just everything in the SW universe is either way bigger or way smaller then I think it is when just eyeballing something. Everytime I actually take the time to blueprint something I'm usually surprised!

I emailed the website and asked them when it would be "fixed" as it's unusable in its current state. ;) I'll let you know.

I bought a "master cast" of a side panel from a guy on the RPF. He sculpted one for himself, and used to sell casts on the RPF, but wanted to get out of selling them. He sold me the master and said I was free to make casts of it. (y) When it arrived, it was in pretty bad shape. I had to do a lot of Dremeling and Bondo work, sanding, etc. I think it's about ready to mold and start casting now. Just need to order more silicone. It's going to take a half gallon to mold it. For reference, it's 12" x 4.25" x 1 3/8" on the "thick side".

For my HIC, I'm going to make 6 panels with greeblies on the "screen", then 2 more will have the "screens" cut out and backed with Plexi backed with EL for the "top" 2 panels on the block. :)

Just heard back from the website. They expecet it to be back up tomorrow. In the meantime, I've asked them about the sheet that I posted before, and the items that I'll need to power it via batteries.

I'll post what I find out. :D

Well, I got a reply... The sheet that I posted earlier can NOT be cut. :( For that you have to buy the "custom pattern sheet" (part number "bA4-BG"), which is A4-sized and $39.20.

After being cut, each new smaller sheet can be powered by 4 AAA batteries in a "iSS3.1" inverter (at $7.50 each), connected to each sheet's positive and negative tabs via gator clips.

-OR-

You can buy 2 of the A5 sheets that I originally posted (for $19.60 each), and 2 power supplies, but you don't really save anything, AND you have to figure out something to do with the excess material since it can't be cut.

I've found a possible better solution. I found a company that sells 4"x4" panels for $10.99 each in WHITE. I've contacted them about the blue-green color. :)

The "screen" portions on my control panels are 3.3" x 3.7", so these should be perfect. (y)

I'll post what I find out from their sales dept.

That sounds pretty good. I remember for a while I had been looking for the nightlights that you plug in and they have a blue-green glowing flat area. I could never find any larger than a 2.5 X 2.5, though.

I have it stuck in my head that one of the panels in the movie had a readout like an oscilloscope. Can't remember and I don't really feel like searching through the DVD right now.:p

FH, why don't you PM me a pic of the control panel you have...I would love to see it. While you're at it if you want to send me your email addy I'll send you some ref pics that I have (I only have maybe 30 or so.) if you are willing to do the same!

Jenga!

Go here:
http://caribbeancustomdesigns.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/361

There's a drop down menu at the bottom where you can select "blue" for an extra $2.00 (making them $12.99 per 4" x 4" panel). This "blue" color is the SAME color as the auto gauges in the pic at the top of the page, according to the owner. (y) (y)

They will operate with any 9VDC - 12VDC power source (12 VDC produces full brightness), so you can just wire each panel to a 9V battery and a switch (mount it in the panel), and you're in business! :D

The one in the movie DID have a moving display, and though I have a few spare scopes laying around, adding 2 of them at 30 pounds EACH isn't feasible for mine, as I'm going to be transporting my HIC to 501st events, and they need to be as light as possible. Plus, integrating the scopes into the HIC would be a MAJOR pain, IMO. I'm going to wimp out and just make it "glowy"! ;)

I'll PM you my email and we can exchange reference photos, though you probably have all of mine.
