General New member considering Zam Wesell

Shin guards covered and everything painted and just needs to be put together. Unfortunately, the place I went searching for better snaps didn't have any that would work. So, we're going to use a rivet inside a snap. If that is successful, I'll post the update. I've sculpted the dewclaw & holder and am using the thermoplastic for those as well; Dewclaw is silicone. Changed up the hand guards too a bit. That thermoplastic is good stuff.

Lastly, a good Zam has to have her poisonous arthropods. Very rare, delicate species pictured here, the Caterpillius fakus Eilashius arthropod:

Just ordered the spotbot hoses. And just prior to the 4th of July holiday here in the states, I sent a message to Faraway Creations to Cal regarding a set gauntlets. I have to admit, I just don't have it in me to try to make those in a reasonable amount of time. Haven't heard back yet, but I understand the fellow is quite busy and, hopefully, he will let me know something soon.
I did get the dewclaws inserted in the foot guard and waited impatiently for the JBWeld to harden. They're sanded and will be painted today. Guess I should invest in some sort of clear coating for all this stuff painted. Anyone have a good suggestion on brand or type?

Geeee! You're making such great progress! Seeing how awesome your stuff looks, I'm tempted to ask if you're up for hire... 
I've kinda put Zam on pause; I think I'm realizing that I won't have her ready in time for AHCC in September
Also, let us know if you hear back from Cal--maybe we can get a small group to get things made to expedite the process!

Well, that is disheartening to hear how long it takes to get stuff from them. Truly, they must be good at what they do for people to wait so long to get their items though. All I'm going to be needing is gauntlets. I can hope like mad that they''ve got a dusty pair at the back of a closet somewhere.
Or I'm going to start feeling like my chocolate sprinkles on my ice cream aren't sprinkles after all... a very disappointing feeling. I KNOW I'll have everything else done by this fall too. It'll suck to have that as my only holdup for a complete costume and hold me back from an ID for the 501st and BHG. *sigh*

Ouch.
Wished I could, but I haven't seen any really clear images to duplicate. I honestly don't have alot of confidence about those particular parts though.
I'll give the fellow a few more days before attempting a second contact.

Beyora, the only problem with trying to do what Cal did, is that he has a studio dedicated to building this stuff, and he has specific materials he uses alot. I don't have either of those. And as well as I can throw some pottery on a wheel, sculpting a clay version of the gauntlets feels like a terrible waste of time as I know I won't get them right. And it'll take a long time too. Hmm.. maybe I can interest some of the techies at University of S. Indiana to play with their 3D machines and make me some plastic ones. I'll have to call in a favor to a friend. They already made some Boba Fett parts, so why not a pair of Zam gauntlets?
But for today, I'm going to get the chest plate done, but the other thing I'm doing is working on JD Fetts broach that he sent me. It didn't set up right for him, but I requested it anyways, just in case I could make it work out somehow. Well, JD Fett's part met up with JB Weld and life as we know it is much, much better and it lives happily ever after. I'm going to smooth on a thin layer on the top and sand it all down when it dries.

Updated photobucket, if anyone is interested. Foot guard is finished, cummerbund ready to dye, and chest plated is completed and just needs dye on leather and silver rub on the top portion. Mirval, I'm considering scanning in my chest plate and posting it as well. I used yours as the initial base, then I cleaned up the line work using tracing paper, and took some time to print out the "text" for the sharp lines. There aren't alot of super clear images and my best one was my book, Dressing a Galaxy. Still, I think my "text" may be too large, but there isn't anything I can do about it now. I cut it out of the thermoplastic. I'm still curious what it says too. Below is the chest plate together, but not affixed yet. Not bad for a days work.

Call me dense, but I'm not sure what exactly your trying to help me with. I haven't set the pieces together permanently yet, so there is time to correct whatever you're pointing out that you've seen wrong with the picture. Keep in mind, all I did was set them on top of each other for the picture, so they aren't properly aligned, just close enough to show my work. Can you please give me more detail to what is wrong?

On your armor pice the top part with the lettering is sitting on a flat, slightly bigger piece of leather. When you look at my link closely you can see, that the smaller part should be embedded into the bigger part. So, the bigger part has a "lip" around with the same height as the inner part.
I'm not sure if this was a better description now.... do you get what i mean?

Got it! Top is embedded into the first piece. Yep, we have a plan for that though this is all so very much experimental and we don't know how well it'll turn out. We used r thick shoe leather for the bottom piece. And now that i think more about it, a second "ring" glued down would give the depth needed for the overlay. Sound good? I'll get on it today I think.
Trust me, I very much appreciate your feedback. It makes me rethink initial plans.
yeah.. now I'm jealous. Some of those parts are unbelievable.

New pictures. Finally had a good warm dry day for airbrushing again.
Yesterday was spent tweaking the bodysuit fit before cutting neoprene. That stuff is more precious than the One Ring that Rules them All. Tomorrow will be finalizing the welt seams on the side and back of the legs and then it goes together. I also got the broach to stiffen up --thank you JBWeld!-- and finished. All the greeblies have been clear coat covered and ready to put into place. I will need to mold a bit of the weld at the insertion site for the hanging bits from the U-shaped greeblie hanging at my waist. But that's pretty minor and won't be an issue.
But as for today, It's purple paint day. Disregard the crappy spray job on the vest so far, it's the inside of the vest and really won't be seen. I'm just covering it because I want to be thorough. It's old leather and not taking it nearly as well as the newer leather that will be seen. Also, it's the first round of spraying it. So, it'll change before I'm done with it today. Here's a pic:
My helmet has become the bane of this project thus far. Not to go into details, but I'm on #4 cardstock build of it. If it fits, I'll finally have a workable start for the helmet.
