AkaraaDira

New Hunter
Hello! I am a serious lurker, and working on my Zam build. Not alot of progress to show, but am in the gathering stage. Things I have so far:

- purchased 5 yards of the ZamIAm neoprene fabric run from back whenever that was :D (thanks Benkenove!)
- used some credit with a local leather company (ravenswood) to make my vest for me
- bought a double shoulder of the 6/7 oz leather for skirt squares & oblong 1/4 in punch
- bought blue, purple, red dye for leather work
- in process of getting a greeblie run from JDFett
- purchased some sintra for the chest plates, shin guards, hand plates and toe guards (3mm & 1mm)
- purchased suede and silk-like material for veil & hood
- purchased a 3D print of the gun
- printed a pepakura of the helmet (we'll see how well this goes lol)

Things I still need to buy/ figure out:

- belt for skirt to attach to - PURCHASED
- leather for cummerbund
- leather for holster
- gauntlets - I decided I'll make these myself w/ sintra?
- hoses for chest plate
- boots - PURCHASED (currently w/ cobbler for repair)
- binoculars - PURCHASED & metal mount (which I think I'll make of sintra?)
- beads
- gloves - PURCHASED

Quick update:

I found some Prada boots on ebay that were pretty beat up for like 30 dollars (including shipping) that had the right soles and shoe shape, so I got them. I'm planning on taking them to a cobbler to get some minor things touched up. They fit perfect! :) I also bought some basic purple gloves on ebay, got a 3D print of Zam's blaster from Shapeways, and I also finished cutting out all my skirt squares. I'm planning on dying some test pieces soon over the next few days. I got scarlet red, evening blue and deep violet along with some resoline and dye reducer from Tandy Leather. I have spent quite a bit of money on materials, so skimped out of fancy tools, so I used a cutting mat and exacto knife to cut all my squares. It took awhile, but I finished cutting them out! haha. Next is dying the squares and then getting some leather lace. Then, I will be focusing on the helmet and chest assembly until I get my neoprene from Moncal :)

I like the gloves. Finding the right shoes is a pain in the butt. I'm not a fan of Prada myself, but wear them I will since it's required.

Update: Took the boots to the local cobbler. Paid 35 dollars to get the heel sections fixed, the stitching on the back of one of the shoes resewn, and the stitching on the back of the other reinforced. Also, I started playing around with my dyes Unfortunately, the threads that show Moncal's dye formula have outdated photos so I can't view them :/ But, I did get the recommended colors that were posted about, and have been playing with the coloring. I think I wasted quite a bit, but it's still early and I think I'll be able to recover the mixes I didnt use. I had no idea what really to do at first, and tried dunking the first test square into the dye itself, and it came out black lol. Ended up realizing I needed some cotton and to dip that in the dye then wipe it onto the squares. After about an hour or so of testing colors, I was happy with some of the mixes and I punched and painted the squares from my 1st and 2nd rows for the skirt. I think they look decent in person but the pictures make them look a little dark. My secondary option should this all fail, is to pick up that Americana Purple Cow Acrylic paint at JoAnn's and airbrush over it all - which I may still do with just a light coat...thoughts? Also, as a note, I'm not wet-dying. Im wiping the dye on dry leather. First photo of squares is NO flash, second is WITH flash.

Done with the squares, finally! Just need to put a coat of resolene on them, and I'm waiting for my lace to get here in the mail. I tried going to tandy, but would've had to pay more and then cut it myself. This lace is precut for me, and they even sent me a sample in the mail for free! I got 25 yards of 1/4" wide 1-2oz or ~1mm thick lace. I got it from here, and talked to them on the phone: Rio Rondo -- Leathers

My Zam fabric is on its way and is due to arrive next Wednesday!!! I'm so excited. Also, I painted my boots and am working on two kits side by side as one is a commission. Progress photos to be uploaded soon, probably after the holidays! Thanks for the support everyone! :D

Fabric is here!!! I CANNOT believe I got my hands on this stuff... the quality of my camera isn't great, but this fabric looks amazing! It has the accurate purple lycra top layer, foam core and blue lycra backing. Really excited to get started on the bodysuit. I'll be doing a mock-up first before i cut into this precious stuff.

So I've been working away at the skirt and the gun. I glued the gun together, bondo'd, sanded, primed and just sprayed the first coat of paint :) The skirt squares are being assembled, I'm about half way done now. I got some lace and dyed it yesterday! I'm really excited to see how i turns out.

Can you tell me where you were able to find the fabric at???

Hi Pencap510, I bought the fabric from a fellow zammer here on the forums who posted it for sale. He had bought it years ago to make the costume for his girlfriend I believe but never got around to it.

I was afraid that is what you were going to say... I am on the hunt -
