Hi guys, I just joined a couple days ago and have been looking around, but this is a big site, and I just had a few questions if someone could help
1: is it easier/cheaper to make my armor or buy?
2: what would be the best material to make my armor?
3: what things would be way easier/cheaper to buy then make?

Hi there and welcome to THE DENTED HELMET!

I assume with you posting in the Jango Fett threads you plan on making a Jango Fett costume, is this the case?

I'm not sure regards to answering questions 1 and 3. It would depend on your skills.

For question 2 though, sintra seems to be the answer to making things.

Good luck what ever you do.

As I have observed, the amount of work and the price are on a sliding scale. So, the easier route you take with the costume the more your going to spend. The less money you spend the more work it is going to be.
Making the costume would be cheaper than buying it if you have the skills, but buying it would definitely be easier.
I agree on #2, If you are going to make the costume Sintra usually yields the best results for those that don't know how to do the CC/fiberglass.
As far as what you should make or buy...I does depend on your skill level in prop building. I think the best answer is for you to learn about the different components of the costume. Once you know more about the different pieces then you will be able to determine what you can make vs what you will have to buy.

Darkside hit it exactly right... you need to see each component and measure them against your skill level... some pieces are easier to make (i.e. chest armor out of sintra, girth belt, etc) and others aren't so easy (Jetpack, helmet, etc)

So like said above, look at the WIP threads here and see what people have made themselves and use their guidance and see if it is something you can tackle on your own.

How much time ya got? Want to spend 20 hours+ on here, searching and researchng threads? Another 40-60 hours+ in build time spread out over many months? Wanna contact numerous people and wait for ship times? Or,do you just wanna drop $2k when a suit comes up (which doesnt happen that often). No my friend, the reason these suits are "rock stars" at the party is because people know you either dropped a wad on it or spent the better part of your prior year's free time putting it together. If you go the build route, all you need, pics and all are buried in these threads (search is your friend). All the people you need to contact and get on waiting lists, again in the threads. Your wallet is in your pocket but only you know how deep it is. You get more satisfaction with the build but you canbe out playing relatively fast with a deep pocket!
