Jango Bucket

Garz

New Hunter
Hello everyone, i finally got my new Jango bucket in and i had a quick question. Should i do any prep work (sanding, primer etc..) before i apply the rub'n'buff? While this isn't my first helmet, it is the first one that i wanted to work on completly by myself (i like to work on my armor :) ) Thanks for any help!!!

so long as it's not a cold cast helmet, yes you should do surface prep before you start applying color to it. i like to start with 220 grit, then go to 400, and 800 before cutting out the visor and keyslots (if necessary), and cut the grooves out for placing the visor (see http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/my-visor-cut-out-intallation-technique-37931/ for details). after that i would do my primer, check for imperfections (sand those down), recoat with primer if necessary, then lightly sand the entire thing with 1000 grit (and up to 1200 or higher if you're feeling retentive). once it's dry your helmet will be ready to take paint or r'n'b. if you decide to try to spray paint the helmet then you should watch this video: Dupli-color chrome spray paint - YouTube, otherwise you can find plenty of r'n'b tutorials around here. either way put the silver down first and let it dry, dry, dry; i don't fully trust r'n'b for about a week. then tape off the silver parts and apply the light blue, wait until dry, tape again, then spray on the dark blue on the upper cheeks and ears. now comes time to unmask, to avoid tape residue that'll mess up the shiny put your helmet in the sink and run just barely warm water over it. doing this will reduce the adhesive on the tape and make it less likely it will leave residue or, even worse, pull up your paint.

I agree with what the Jango Bucket guru said:)

I would make certain that it isn't a cold cast helmet first though... It would be a shame to waste good cold cast with RnB.

Thanks I really appreciate it! What kind of primer would you recommend?

@Saint nasty... thanks for that Dupli-color link... I was needing to redo my westars and this is just what I needed :)

And as for the helmet, listen to SN, he knows his stuff when it comes to painting a helmet :)

Okay, thanks for everyone's help so far I really appreciate it. But I have one last item I'm looking for, does anyone know where I can find Royal Blue paint? I've looked everywhere, lowes, home depot, walmart etc.. Any ideas?

I got mine at Lowes, but that was before they changed the selection of Rustoleum... I would check online and since you are in the US, ground shipping would work for you :)
