Jango for a 5 year old, progress thread.

I've touched it up in photoshop.

The visor is too translucent and has holes cut in it, as do the side 'cheeks'. It's made out of two pieces of very thin plastic and the join is pretty rough. My son as also asked for a more realistic one (I'm so proud).

Cheers, though I think I'm probably going to regret it when he fires it at a comic convention and I end up paying for a smashed collectable.

It's easy to do, just some toilet roll holder springs, a piece of doweling, a pipe and some polystyrene cones.

Tantilisingly close to completion. My son had a try out of his costume at a recent troop.

Mainly to check comfort and wearability. All in all I'd call it a success. He kept the costume on for an hour or so and the helmet on for short stints. Just missing his gauntlets which are in progress. He's wearing his fancy dress helmet in the pictures. Although this is meant as a stop gap, I will probably keep using it as a light weight 'stunt' version.

I've attached the jetpack directly to the vest (because it is light), however I think I will have to press stud the belt to the vest to stop it riding up over time (see picture below)

N.B. his jet pack rocket is in the safety postion, after being fired.

One new find was the small blue leather gloves. These are child's equestrian gloves from TillyTrotters on ebay.

if he grows out of the coveralls you might try modding a set of hospital scrubs. That is IF you can find them his size. They are fairly easy to dye I found out. Just make sure to sew the new fore sleeves on before dying.

Cheers,
nice tip Huntman, I'll look into that.

The overalls and shoes will be the first to be replaced, the vest etc. should last a few years. If it's still in one piece after he's finished with it I'll put it on the cargo hold. :)

Next age group up, I think I'll do Judge Dredd. I've already got the leathers. :)

Nearly there.

Finally got a new camera to take a picture of Rob's brilliant paint job on the helmet. I haven't decided if I'm going to weather it, as it's a good match to the rest of the costume and my son tends to 'weather' it a bit each time he wears it.

My son entered a cosplay competition, in his part finished costume, at the Leeds Comic Convention and won a prize. I'm not surprised, I was there with some other costumers and no one seemed interested in us as soon as Mini Jango made an appearance.

I've just sourced some excellent child gauntlets as well. The maker must be a member on hear. They're a nice squat shape and look like they'll be pretty comfortable and were a bargain price.

I'd just paid through the nose for a set of Kenner ones as well. So I'll have a couple to choose from.

Next post will hopefully be a photo session of the finished thing.

Cheers!
Pretty much finished now. Just some minor tweaks, though the overalls will need replacing soon.

Thanks for all the help and advice in putting it together!

Thanks for posting this thread! My 5 year old, who loves Jango, is gonna flip! In addition to the Fett build, Jango is also on our list as a wearable costume for him.
'Nuff inspiration here!

Just to raise this old thread from the ashes.

I recently managed to up size the suit, gloves, helmet a shoes. The costume still works quite well, though I think it will be the last year it fits.
