Unexplored territory!

Well it's saturday, the sun is out but it's on the chilly side and so I'm staying in 8) .

I've finally got around to start scratch building my bucket, seeing as my EE-3 is 98% done. Anyway having looked at alot of peoples efforts and read their how to's, the way I chose to go was Alan's ( W.O.F) templates. And can I just say now how incredibly easy they are to work with. I decided that the way to go with this build was to begin with the dome as this looked to be a somewhat time consuming job. How right I was!! I guess a combination of human error/ printer problems as well as being somewhat optamistic with regards to the thickness of sintra I could get away with using (2mm) led me to have the problems I did.
Without going into too much detail lets just say that after 3hrs hard work I now have my fingers crusted up with a mixture of superglue and separated skin from various other fingers (ouch) :( I've excersized my vocal chords shouting to the guy upstairs asking why he makes things so difficult for me. I've also taken a big stick to my printer and knocked 10 bells out of it for not doing what I had asked it to do, which was to print the templates out 100%. They looked full size but at the end I ended up with a gap almost as if a piece of the template was missing!!.....It wasn't, so a piece had to be fabricated by eye so the dome would mate up and achieve the right shape.
However! as of right now I have sitting in front of me a dome that looks damn well spot on. Thanks once again to Alan Sinclair (wizardofflight) for the work he put in on those templates (y) and thanks to you guys for reading this ramble.
I will be posting pics of my lids progress but I'm not going near my camera until I get all this glue off my fingers.

This is as far as I've got today. I've started to apply the bondo and given it a rough sanding down, to get an idea as to how much smoothing is going to be needed to get this thing looking peachy. Best guess so far is I'll be at it for a while. Those of you who've done this will know all about it I'm sure.

Cheers all and play nice :cheers

Yep, the dome is probably the toughest part with all the lines that need to be cut and fabbed together. But in the end, it's worth it. But, from experience, I'll say you might want to consider eliminating the bottom ring (with the words and numbers) if you haven't already done it. I can't tell from your picture. That bottom ring, I believe, is for reference only. If you leave it on, it makes the dome too high.

Looks good so far.:)

Jaiden. Do you mean the ring with the words "front" on or the one above? If it's the one with the writing on in the pic, then I was going to remove it later. The ring with the numbers on is the one above and I thought that would make the dome too shallow if removed?
Thanks for your input :)

Yeah, sorry. I got a little ahead of myself there.:rolleyes

Yes, only the ring with the words needs to be removed. When I did mine, it just looked wrong, so I cut it off. Then, I can't remember who did it, but someone here did their dome with that "word ring" still on, and it was too high. He ended up taking it off, too.

Cool! Thanks for clearing that up mate. I'm still bondo and sanding, in fact I have been at it all day. At least the dome is now starting to look spherical but it's still gonna take alot more elbow grease before I get it spot on. :)
