TF2 ESB Paint Job for Captain Awesome=FINISHED!

Beautiful, just beautiful. (y)
I know there's a lot more masking involved for a layered paint job than topical.
I discovered this when I began doing PP2 helmets. It seems that it's so much
work spending hours masking for a 5-10 minute session with the airbrush. But
when the masking is removed, it's all worth it, just as we can see here! :)

Splendid work m'man. While I don't have the snazzy tooth picky tool, its exactly the way i go about it - mask the outline (I go with standard toothpicks), then fill in the blanks with cheap throwaway brushes (I buy a cheap pack of 10 or so for like $3). Yes, it is time consuming, and yes, it can take more than one session per layer - but it really is worth it, and G - you demonstrate that here absolutely beautifully. Top notch as always :)

Next layer added, hopefully the green layer will tie all the detail together...

Looking great, Garrett!
Layered is so weird. . . it's exactly backward from the way I do my topicals.

Ahh, surely it's you topical folk that have it backwards..;) As for you 'layer-opical' enthusiasts, then I don't even know where to start!

Finally added the green on the back panels, what a relief...;)

Still a few more details to add within the silver damage on the right hand panel, however...:facepalm

This is awesome. THis one of the parts of my Boba build I ain't looking forward to.

I have no real experience of painting and have always been pretty **** at what I have tried.

You guys are so talented and make it look so simple. I think a may have to call on someones expertise when the time comes as i'm sure i'll balls it up

Will continue to watching intently as this progresses.

I used to have a helmet you painted. I miss it so much :(

In this thread, can you please show how you do the scuffs under the killstripes, and the tan splatter at the end?

Finally got around to applying the mid grey on the dome and lower cheeks. Spent far too long masking the base grey and silver damage, oh well. On this helmet I'm using Rafalfett's templates as well as reference shots, this really helps scaling and positioning but also means much more detail...
This grey is a new colour I'm using, i finally settled on a tone that works on the rear panels, dome and cheeks and the mandibles and trim. Previously I've used a darker grey for the dome and cheeks, this grey appears to work well to achieve the desired contrast with its adjacent colours, this should make sense later in the paint up...
I need to revisit the dent and other areas to add the fine detail grey within the silver, its easier to manage as a separate masking layer...
