Superjedi's FPH2 for Jbdubz

Thanks! Glad you're liking it, Jeremy.

UPDATE: DAY 10

Had a little more time than I thought this afternoon, so I managed to get the rest of the right panel done. I always forget
there's a good amount of detail in the lower right portion of the panel. Here are a few angles.

I'll be doing some weathering with pastels once all the "basic" paintwork is done, so there will be just a bit more weathering
on some of these areas. Pastels are usually my last step before the final clearcoat. I like working with pastels as you can get
some nice subtle effects, but they have to be sealed or they'll smudge when the helmet is handled.

With the rear panels done, this sets me up to do the base color on the dome and inner cheeks! :) The helmet will really
begin to change appearance once that primer gray is mostly gone.

Thanks, Jeremy! Yeah, I made it through the back panel stage. But the horror of the mandibles is still to come!

UPDATE: DAY 11

There are a couple of stages to show in this update. First I masked off the back panels and laid down the base coat
for the dome and inner cheeks. Then I mixed a slightly lightened shade and airbrushed that on, giving it cloudy, uneven
coverage. It always looks odd at this stage.

The pics show it as lighter than it looks by eye. I think that's because it's a big unbroken expanse of green. Once the damage
is placed the color will seem to shift a little darker. The final weathering stages will change the color even more. But I like the
contrast between the dome and the rear panels.

This will dry overnight and then I'll begin the gray and silver damage at the back of the dome.

When you go around the edges of the green with the brush for that nice contrast, are you using thinned paint or full strength?

Thanks, Refugee. It certainly is a process!

To do the little bits of green here and there? I'm using the paint out of the bottle. It's the same color but when it's brushed on it winds up denser than
when it's airbrushed on, so it looks darker.

Is it just me or does the back panel color look like a brown grey mix?

The base layer is Polly Scale Concrete.

UPDATE: DAY 12

Really had to consider how that dome/cheek weathering came out. I liked the level of contrast between those areas and
the rear panels, but something was off with the hue. I wound up doing a nearly opaque layer of the base color again, then
mixing up a new weathering shade. This came out much better! Now the contrast looks good, and the hue is much
closer to where I want it to be. :)

Still looks a little weird because it's so "blank" right now.

So. . . a small step backwards, but it's worth it. Once this is dry I'll begin the damage on the dome.

Thanks, Zero!

UPDATE: DAY 14

Two weeks in. . .

I've begun the damage on the back of the dome. It'll be lots of gray and silver as I work my way around.
There's a really fun network of tiny scratches on the back of the dome, and I do these with a combination of silver applied
with a size 000 brush and a sharp metal tool. There are small scratches all over the helmet, but the back of the dome
has the most.

You can kind of see with these two different angles which scratches are silver and which are scraped in physically.

I'll continue working counter-clockwise, so the area behind the RF ear will be up next. :)

Thanks, Lazarus!

UPDATE: DAY 15

Round and round we go. I got the area behind the RF ear done.

You'll notice that when you spin the helmet far enough, the gray sort of fades away. This is exactly the effect we want.
Next I'll jump over the ear arch and begin the cat scratch region. One of my favorite details to paint! :)

Looking awesome E, those new colour mixes really look spot on an work amazing together. Top shelf stuff great man!

UPDATE: DAY 18

Let's get some more updates going! (y)
My work schedule has become kind of hectic. We had a high priority project come up and it's eating up a lot of my time during the week.
But I've found some scattered moments over the past 2 or 3 days to work on the cat scratch area. I like to do these three individual
damage areas together, as the negative space between them is important to the overall look. I actually have this all as one stencil, although
I paint each section one at a time.

Another angle.

I'll continue around and do the smallish area above and between the turn signals next. After that. . . it'll be dent time!
