Superjedi's Animefan Premium CC for Jesster

Thanks! :) You'll enjoy this. . .

Today is day 50 of the project and I've hit a milestone--all basic painting on the main helmet is done!
I finished the vertical part of the right mandible, as well as carved in all of the physical damage.

From here, I'll begin the "effects" painting on the helmet. This includes the pale contrasting gray, the white thumbprints, some pastel weathering,
the "grease stains" on the back of the dome, and the spatter. As far as the ears go, all the parts have been base coated for a while now and I can
begin the detail painting on them. So it's getting there! Still a good amount to do, but the end is in sight.

Into the effects painting now. :) Here are the first couple of stages.

First--thumbprints. I love this feature. It's so random.

Here's a closer look. I do these in 2 stages: first I apply the opaque parts which consist of the small vertical lines in the upper
thumbprint, and the outline on the lower thumbprint. Then when that's dry, I go back and brush on a thinned coat of white to
get the translucent streaking.

I also did the pale contrasting gray. This is concentrated in a couple of places, such as the right rear panel and the dent, but there
are other bits scattered around the helmet. There's even a couple of tiny flecks in the cat scratch.

A broken curved line down the edge of the right mandible. There's also some in the red band above the visor opening.

And of course, the dent.

I used an 18/0 liner brush to do all this. Here's a closer view of the dent.

The last item to show tonight is the scuff on the dome on the range finder side. I drybrush this on using Polly Scale Tarnished Black.

I still have the grease stains and some pastel weathering to do. But I do those right before I apply the final clear coat. So now I'll be
working on detailing the ears.

We're getting some of the effects of hurricane Mathew here in VA tonight, so hopefully we don't lose power. I didn't have time to get to
Tosche Station to pick up my power converters today. ;)

Thanks, guys. :)

Doing some ear work now. I got the lower RF ear piece done. In the pics it's just loosely installed for now.

The majority of the left ear is done also. I just need to finish the bottom facet.

Hoping to finish the left ear by tomorrow. Then I'll mask and spray the black arch on the RF ear cap.

Hi all! Been busy but still making progress on the helmet. When it gets toward the end of the project it seems that there are
a thousand little details to finish up. Here are some shots of what I've been working on.

First off, the accessories. I've completed the ears, including final weathering, as well as the RF assembly, and the Borden.

This is the first time I've gotten to use some of my dry transfers on an actual helmet. :) Makes doing the little black markings on
the ears so quick and easy.

The RF topper is detailed, and I weathered the stalk by first sanding it to get rid of that super shiny finish, then added rust spots
as seen on the reference pics.

There's also a rusty wash applied, which is picked up at certain angles. It helps to give it the look of stainless as opposed to aluminum.

On the Borden, I glued it onto a small piece of black styrene so you can't see all the way through it. It also provides a more secure way
to attach it to the inside of the helmet. I applied a muddy/greenish wash, then detailed it with some silver.

On the helmet itself, I've done all the final weathering except the spatter. That's done after the ears are installed. Later today
I'm going to apply the final clear coat, then do the spatter. After that the only thing left is to install the visor. We're 99% done now! :)

Day 64--complete! :)

It's been a lot of fun doing this helmet. I just love the ESB and never get tired of painting them.
By Jesster's request, I have not permanently attached the RF clear block as he is going to install one of JC27's light kits.
So the block is just pressed in place for the pics. Speaking of pics, here's a selection of final shots.

And we'll finish up with a couple of detail shots. First, the RF ear, including the small markings.

Next, we have the left mandible, with the "beauty mark" and the drips.

Finally, here are the thumbprints. You can see the fade below the killstripes in this view as well.

Thanks to everyone who followed along with my ESB #21! :) I'll get the helmet packed up and it will head out to its
new home tomorrow or Friday. Hope you enjoy it, Jess!
