A Fett helmet for an avatar?? It's unheard of! ;)

I got the keyslot area finished. It's the first appearance of the maroon-purple shade. I mix up a custom batch for each helmet that
I work on. It's basically a mixture of 2 Polly Scale colors: PRR Maroon, and BAR Blue. It's a pretty dull purple, but it provides a
nice contrast to the base red.

From here I'll begin working on the red band above the keyslot area. I break the rear half into three chunks: left, middle, and right. There's lots
of great detail on the band, and once it's done, it's pretty interesting to see how much of the base red is covered up.

:) My very own personal Slave I.

I got the center section of the band done. Lots of tiny chips and intricate patterns that require a few passes with the 3 main colors,
then some additional detailing. Notice how much of the base red is totally covered up.

The left section is up next.

Hiding more of the red band. :)

I got the left section done. The appearance will change just slightly once I add the white thumbprints. There's some
white that is streaked back, giving the silver a sort of whitewashed appearance.

I'll work on the right section, then it's on to the front half!

Thanks!

Beginning to give Fett a face. I always seem to do things in the same order. I began at the left corner of the visor opening,
then worked the left half of the "brow" area. Here are a couple of shots.

This is another section where I have to carefully compare the exhibit reference shots with screen caps. The helmet has accumulated
some extra damage over the years (seen on screen in ROTJ-SE) and I have to subtract that damage to create the "pure" ESB look.

I'll work on the right half of the brow area next.

I am not a machine. I am a carbon-based life form. . . as far as you know. ;)

Got the remaining section of the brow done. All the tiny chips and flecks give me some final practice before I
move down to the mandibles. I'll start with the left side and finish with the right (since I'm a masochist ).

A bit closer upper.

Now for some boring real life stuff, like grocery shopping. Boo!

Finished the left mandible this afternoon. Again, since this is screen-used ESB, it doesn't include any of the "extra" damage.

I still need to do the physical damage on the edge of the visor opening and on the outer cheek. I like to paint these areas first
then go back and carve in the damage. That way it's placed exactly where I want it. Some silver touch ups will complete the
damage.

Right mandible. . . you're next!

I'm really surprised you didn't just rip the band-aid off and lead off with the whole right mandible. It will be a work art for sure!

How do you get the handpainted damage to look so....not-brushed?! Haha amazing....

Well, I owe a lot to the quality of the paints. I love using Polly Scale acrylics. They've been discontinued, so what I have on hand is slowly dwindling,
but they're excellent for airbrushing and brushing by hand. Very pigment-heavy and self-leveling, so they brush on smoooooooooth!

Sithlord...

Shhh!!! ;)

Any idea what you're going to use once your supply completely runs out?

i would love to know this. I think a special edition, Superjedi paint brand shoot out would be cool to find the successor in pigment heavy, self leveling paints that brush and airbrush well. How about it Eric?!

LOL. I'm just going to start my own paint brand. It can't be that hard, right? ;)

Got some good progress in this weekend on the right mandible. I like to break this up into 2 sections--the horizontal part,
which is seen here, and the vertical part. There's not nearly as much to do on the vertical part, and I'll start on it tomorrow.

Using some veeeeery fine detail brushes to do all of this.
