Scratchbuilt v 2.0...question for the masses

Okay, these are the pics of the 85% complete Rawlings batting helmet mod.
I still have to do the visor install and build the RF (I've built two of these already, and they were both horrible and smashed them for frustration relief). That one little piece has driven me to the point of insanity..........
This bucket will have to do until I can afford a FG model because there is absolutely no way I will ever do this again...lol. I know some of the proportions are weird and the ears look a little off, (they are) but the over all appearance will do. The paints are all Rouge's colors and I think they look awesome....can't wait to paint a real helm!

The T visor area looks a bit off...but dang...that really looks nice. You scratch built that sucker??? I gotta say its looking great. The paint job especiallly is really good!! Don't be so hard on yourself man:)

:) i think it looks great!

the t-visor is a little... out of proportion, if you can make it more even, you wouldnt really need to buy another helmet.... that paint job is great!!:cheers

Thanks guys...appreciate it!

What part of the T-visor are we talking about? The mandibles are a little outa line right now until I put the visor in (the gap at the top in between the mands looks big...for the moment anyhow) Just wanna get it right ya know?

Your paint job is surpurb...I'd be proud to have you paint a bucket for me. Aside from the gap in the mandible area (which you should have little problem correcting) I think this is an awesome scratch built ESB:cheers . Keep up the good work and let us know how the final product looks.

Just what did you use to make the helmet? I am looking to make my own from scratch. I have found a pic that shows a hard hat being cut but thats about all the info that I have found. I was hoping to go that route since I got a hard hat and I think that it would be cheaper that way than buying a helmet and just painting it. Any help would be great

Man, the more I see this helmet, the more impressed I get. You've GOT to take this helmet to the Episode III premiere in Danvers man... I HAVE to see this thing first hand!

Looks really awesome! You should be very proud of it! Having built one from scratch myself, I know it is a pain - but reward for all your time and hard work is a truly awesome looking bucket! Paint job is top-notch as well. (y) (y)

OK....I've "tacked" the visor in temporarily. There is 5mm difference between the width of the top of the visor and the bottom. 48 at the top and 43 at the bottom. My question is.......do you all think i should shave the insides of the mands at the bottom to even it out, or leave it be and move on to the RF.

If your perfectly happy with the visor as is move on to the next bit but if you think you will always look at the visor and think ... I should have evened it out ...then probably best to even it out now. :)

Been working diligently on RF #3. Haven't smashed it (yet). Dimensions are:
72 mm long
28mm height thick end
10 mm height narrow end
28 mm wide both narrow ends top view
35mm wide widest point top view
This is as close to correct as I can figure with scaling pics and such. Lemme know if I'm off........I was going to make it solid, but I was in Walmart (surprise)
and I saw this neato cool Ever-ready flashlight with a blinking red LED (so you don't lose it at night lol). $3.99........I tore the board out of it and soldered another red LED and a green one for the viewpiece and voila! RF lights. Only thing is only one of the red one blinks....but for 5 bucks I guess I'll live with it.
Here's the pics.
