Sanding - Yawn - Pics

I'm part way through my first scratch build. Ive read the forums a LOT before doing anything....and so far so good,

However, after the first bondo stage I have spent hour, after hour, after hour sanding.

I tried to apply the bondo as thin and sooth as I could...with the view that I can go back to it later and touch up. But the sanding is just taking so long.

Can you guys take a look at the attached pics..... am I doing something wrong?

Are there any saning tips or tools I'm not aware of?
