ROTJ PAINT UP (WIP)

Ive started to paint one of my helmets up in Jedi colours;

Im using Tamiya rattle cans, Which are modelers paints
Istarted by spraying a coat of grey primer then marked were i wanted to have the gel coat show thru then using mid grade wet an dry abrasive paper i took back the primer in places to reveal the white GC
Then i added the deep cuts and score marks

After aplying the battle damage marks i gave it a couple of coats of a cheep $5 chrome enamel ( paints are realy expensive over here you pay around 8 - 18 for resonable cans like Krylon belton and 15 - 25 for a small can of modelers paints ) .
This is the first time ive used these paints and im pretty happy with the results.
To get the battle damage on the paints i placed painters tape were i wanted to have the silver show thru,... Once paint is sprayed and alowed to dry over night so its cuerd, The tape is removed then i scratch of the paint around the area i had taped to acheive a weatherd look, in the pics i have only done this to the red .
Ive also fixed a few things on the lid that i mised before casting , like the upper right ear platform i made flater to the lid it self and a few other small details

Ive aplyed the base colours added a little bit of weathering ,
using a cross between the Rogue Studios method and a bit of improvisation,..
the light green on the back is a mix of 2 difrent colours blended over each other,...
and the upper cheeks has a mix of a dark navy and a dark jade green to get it between blue and green ,

Its hard to capture the colours on a camers but the upper cheeks looks alot more blue in the flesh

Got the kill stripes down...
Also added more weathering to all the colours DSC04065.JPGDSC04066.JPGDSC04062.JPG
Next im going to add more weathing/ damage in a few more places then ill add the gray were it shows through the red and green

looks pretty good after all the add dull coat and itll look pretty legit...the ears are whats gonna give it the finished look for sure though

Yeah im realyy undisided were to go with the cheeks ive tryed a few difrent colous and some look to blue or to green or to black,
But i think they look all right now , however i may try another colour that has more blue in it its realy half way between the green and blue , and quite dark as well
Instead of doing 3 colours over each other trying to get the right mix.

Also i need to know what the sheen on dull coat is as im having trouble finding any, Its obvious that its quite flat but is it like satin or matt or flat?

Do you mind sharing the Name of the Kryl, there rear as over here but you can still get tem a 2 difrent places there stok is low but ive lucked out b4

Just droped 3 layerd colours to ghet the blue the way i see it should be but i think this is were it shall stay

And yeah its an awsome shirt , my new favorite , my teenage daughter hates it i wore it to pic here up when she was out with her buddys,LOL

Got to start the the cheeks again i went to take a pic and i almost droped the lid and caught it on the upper cheeks and stuffed it up
Ohwell it was getting to thick any way gonna strip it back and do it over

agreed. in my opinion layers of color always end up looking best. i use a mix of blue, green and black with lots of thin coats of all of them until i get it how i like it.

looking good now i think! :)
