Rogue Studios' ESB Color list & Painting Techniques

Hi everybody,

Does anybody know what colours could be used over here in Europe (brand of paint, paintnames..) to paint an ESB-helmet?
I'm really new at this so forgive me if this next question is herecy or something ;) :
how do you apply the paint? By brush, airbrush, paint in a can (spraying)..? Which looks best?
I'm gathering all necessary materials to start on my cardboard helmet, so it's good to think ahead :)

Thanks!

Try contacting a member here that goes by Micke he is in Europe and does amazing paints so I am sure he will be able to point you to the closest colors.

As for how to apply it just depnds on what types of paints you are using, if you are going by the list in this thread they are ment to be airbrushed. I have seen some people use regular rattle can spray paint with decent results. And I personally hand painted my helmet (but I wanted the colors to look a little different)

I know a few folks just have some of us in the us buy them and ship them to the UK since you cant buy them from the company.

It's Caboose pretty darn sure of it but heck no one really knows to be 100% certain. I used it on the MR helmets and it looked really good to me.

****Warning*****
Caboose *NOT Caboose Red

hmm...? I'll do some comparison pics to show the differences between the two colors.(Caboose vs Boxcar red)
Or unless you have some already???
That would be cool to see the differences.....(y)

:)

Oh and here's the Testors link to the Caboose:

Hey not trying to sell it to anyone use what you want I'm just telling you what LFL liked and actually asked how it was matched it so well. This color is extremely close jsut has more red in it. This will be the color I use on my personal helmet. I kept them as easter eggs but I got to thinking how fair is it to the TDH? so I thought I would toss it here.

Hi, I make this list with the RS's Colors list. Are this list correct?

Helmet (Empire version)
* Panzer Olive Green (Cheeks and dome) - F505113
* Caboose (not caboose red) (mandibles) - F110088
* Reefer Yellow Vertical stripes (update) also the look of this strictly dependent on heavily applied it is and don't apply heavily on frontal stripes - F110031
* Reefer Gray update (Gray around scratches) - F414116
* Rust (various locations) F110073
* Chrome (scratches) I think this was actually a color called bright silver but this works best. - F110101
* Main color back of helmet- RLM73 - F505316
* Back of helmet- Concrete - F110082
* PRR Green(I like weathered black better) (Inside cheeks) this is practically black. - F414164
* Earth Enamel(Rangefinder ear) - F110081
* Caboose (Red scratches on left ear). - F110020
* Light Gray (on left ear) any light gray will do. - 4765
* PRR Maroon for the dark color on mands may need to darken this color with a touch of black.
I know the original color but Floquil hasn't made the color for almost 20 years so it's very very hard to find and this will do trust me. - F414161

And I can't find two colors:

* Earth Enamel(Rangefinder ear) - F110081 (Is this color correct?)
* POG Green Update!(Left ear) -
* Main color back of helmet- RLM73 - F505316 (I found It today!! :D)

I've been looking through this thread as well as searching the forums for a bit and im about ready to start laying some color on my first helmet and I had a few questions about some paint techniques I seen. I have some liquid masking left over from a RC Car I painted a few years ago and I can use that but i also seen some say you can use a toothpick to scratch your damage into the paint(I dont remember which post it was in) and I was wondering if you would do this after the paint has had time to set up a bit or if it would be better when its still kind of wet? I also did a test patch of the Panzer green on sone scrap plastic I had laying around and It seemed really dark. Panzer Olivegrun 1943 is what I got at the hobby store. Is that different than the Panzer Olive Green?

in my experience, the best time for the scratches is when the paint is dry to the touch, but not cured. it still comes up fairly easily, but is solid enough to scratch, not smear.

I disagree with his color choice for that... but its whats on his list. I usualy use RLM green (one of the mediums) that has that more forest deep green.
