I've ordered my new bucket from Animefan and Im prepping to receive. Ive painted a couple of buckets now, mostly with spray paints but Im planning on airbrushing my new kit. My question is this, do you prefer top or bottom fed airbrushes? Any explanation as to why you prefer either or is very much appreciated! Thanks!

Gravity feed is nice...I believe Deadland and fettseven would agree as well.

Id recommend a pasche single action for a first time airbrush, something you basically use like a spray can....its adjustable but not on the fly like a double action. You set the amount of paint you want to spray out and push the button...you should play around with it a bit get a feel for the pressure/paint consistency and such but its pretty simple...if you want a more complex setup go for it....BUT un needed.

I've airbrushed a bit in the past, just not a full helmet, I'm looking at purchasing an airbrush kit with compressor that comes with two brushes, a gravity fed and a siphon fed system. Just wondering which people preferred. I like the look of the siphon fed due to the fact of no spillage if you don't set the brush down just right, but I'm unsure of the consistency when spraying. I've used gravity fed in the past and results have been good.

I wouldn't buy a "kit" Id buy a good compressor, one that you can use for other things with a semi large tank...so youre not constantly listening to a compressor run. Like I have a 5 gallon tank compressor...and I can paint till I need to stop before it kicks on...which makes listening to music while painting able to happen...the loud compressor running is pretty annoying to me...this paasche is what I use for painting armor and such. yea Dom is correct... he gave me the same advise a year ago and i haven't turned back. Not only are the small compressors annoying but they burn out kinda fast when you have them running for so long. the larger compressors with the tank are def the way to go. Plus you can use it for other things as well. I have one similar to this:

Great advise Dom and Lou. Airbrushing was new to me for my Fett Build. I end up buy the Master Airbrush from Amazon for $90 or so. It did its job for small projects, but for bigger and long term it keeps getting plugged up and is very hit and miss. So thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into these when I upgrade.

ALSO cleaning a single action is quick and easy....unscrew 1 allen key retaining bot and unscrew the nozzle...very quick disassembly

I actually use 2 airbrushes - a Paasche H single action for larger coverage areas, and a gravity-fed dual action for finer areas and detail. My fave here is actually an Iwata Neo. Not completely top of the line, but just works well for me, and comes with two paint cup sizes depending on how much paint you are using. While the Paasche is great for larger coverage, I actually prefer the preciseness of the dual action gravity feed. Takes a little bit of practice, but just prefer the feel and control.

Yeah, like Jayvee said, I like the control you can get out of a dual action brush. If you plan to use an airbrush for a lot of different projects, a dual action setup will wind up being more versatile.
As far as gravity vs siphon, I prefer the gravity fed.

I'm a fan of dual action, I have 3, iwata, passche and badger.....

Definitely gravity fed for me as well.

my compressor is about 15 years old, and proud survivor of a fire, a slight flooding, about 6 pipe blows and several houses.:cool

Yea..i like gravity fed as well. The siphon caused me alot of issues and just has more areas that can get build up/clogged.
