Pre-Pro 2 colors

Hey guys, i'm painting up my Don Post 95 helmet in the Pre-pro 2 scheme (I think it's the easiest???). Except I don't know what sort of acrylic paints to use or what sort of things I need to get to prepare the helmet for painting (still has colors on it)

SpideyFett did some amazing research on the colors for the PP2 and ROTJ helmets.

And I think these are micke's (Mikael Noguchi) colors for the PP2 helmet.

That pinkish color on the mandibles is an unknown color (it might be a mixed color) but I found a color that is a close match and is called Sandy Rose (it's a coincidence that this color is named as the lady who painted the PP2, ROTJ and Sandy helmet?).

Thankyou for that Rafal!!!

EDIT: Some of those colors don't get sold In Australia, it costs like $2 for the paint itself but to get it here is like $27

If jinto says the ESB is the easiest, than he is right, because he painted some helmets. The ROTJ and the PP2 helmets has more little scratches and more subtle colors and I think is far more difficult to paint. The hardest part in the ESB is the back plate area but using the stencils will help a lot.

And if you want more on the PP2 colors then check out this thread Painting the Grant McCune Helmet.

What he said ^ , the PP2 may well be the hardest , to do right any way, there a so many subtle colour shifts and blends that are hard to pic up, and to do the PP2 or ROTJ and do them properly there is alot of unseen work
were the ESB is just flat colour coats over colour ,yes there is more regognisable scratchs but there is no mystery in painting the ESB, were the Jedi and PP2 have a much more artistic aproach taken on there paint aplication, if that makes sense
some people may not agree with me but thats the way I see it any way

That's exactly the way it is, if people don't agree... well, that's because they haven't tried to paint a Sandy bucket

hmm, so the front of an esb would still use similar colors as to that of a pre-pro 2 or rotj?

EDIT: Would toyworld sell grey primer?

If its a an acrylic yes but Id sugest if you have axcss to tamiya stick with there under coat there paints are a synthetic blend and they work well with difrent materials ,and seeing you are planning on painting the DP alot of paints (mostly enamels) will react to the vinyl substraight
how ever certin acrylic laqure under coats will work

Metadude - check out my esb jinto lid paint up for a list of colours available in oz. Im in perth, so if you can get it in perth, you should be able to get them nywhere. I mainly used a brand of paints called 'Ironlak' - they are graffiti art acrylic laquers, and are between $5-$6 a can, and come in an awesome array of colours. feel free to contact me if you want a full help guide - you mite find a few of your own odds and ends that your happy with, but it will at least give you a start. cheers mate, peace :)

hmm....i've been thinking...would it be wise to make a cast/mold of my 95 helmet to save myself money in the long run when/if I stuff up on the helmet...

that tamiya fine surface primer is actually a really good primer too - the only thing, is that you may go through even the big can quite quickly, and its not that cheap. I used an automotive primer from a supercheap auto for my helmet which worked great - but other than the amount, that tamiya one is still a ripper product..

My only concern is being the fact he will be painting over the DP vinyl plastic lots of paints react to it in a pour fashion,
there for the Tamiya would be the go

ok, so use the primer.. leave it to dry, paint over it with acrylic paints?

EDIT: would making a mold/cast of this helmet help save me money in the long run if i want to paint up another helmet?
