Hi Guys,

I have done a search but it has come up with hundreds of topics and posts which would take me weeks to search through.

I have got the templates etc and am ready to have my first go at making the helmet from scratch. Basically I just need to know what kind of material do you guys use to make the frames / panels before bonding?

Wziardofflight lights templates recommend using paper, Rafalfett's templates recommend 2mm cardstock. I prefer 2mm cardstock because it's cheap and easy to work with. Start at the helmet and stencils page (http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=41929) and find out what you need to get started and step by step tutorials. Also, most existing scratch build threads list materials used in the creation of their buckets.

The biggest advice I can give you is to keep researching! The veteran members of this site are extremely helpful and have never let me down. They've been doing this work for years and have answered just about every question a million times so out of courtesy it's best to search the forums and at a very minimum read through all the stickies to find out if they've already provided the answer before.

Thanks for the advice, i looked over a few build threads and read the instructions which i will follow this weekend but couldn't see what type of material is used. I will give a go with paper and see how I get on :)

I don't think paper would be very good for a build. It will be very hard to maintain a rigid shape. Card may be a bit better, but I used 'grey board/backing board' (https://www.pullingers.com/c/72109) 2mm thick. Very rigid, cuts with a sharp crafting knife, and bends well with a slight misting of water. I think I spent around £25 on the board, and used less than half of it...32x22" size. Don't know where in the world you are, but if in the UK, then this would be a good place to source some stuff :D

I have just copied and pasted AntMan's second cardboard build into a single word file so im gonna print that off (100 pages!!!)

Only thing is it kinda ends after the filler and sanding section but it looks like its a case of sticking it all together and painting so should be able to figure it out. Might even start my first build topic
