Active Hunter
Just wanted to introduce myself and let you all know I've started my very first Fett costume.:) I've started off by modifying a 97' D.P.
I sanded the whole thing down and then layered several coats of clear gloss and silver spraypaint. After that I hand painted the entire thing with acrylics, followed by a few days of sanding and controlled scpraping with a mini-filing kit.

That looks like a nice mod. Is that the original visor, or did you replace it? And did you change the rangefinder/stalk/pivot housing in any way?

it's still a little narrow around the face. i recently took an eight inch wooden craft ring (i got it at a Michael's craft store) and wedged it in the top of a rubies '97 and ended up getting a pretty decent shape. oh yeah, first i heated the helmet so it would be nice and pliable, then i hotglued the ring in once it was in a good place. after it was nice and set i used some gorilla glue to make it a bit more permanent than the hotglue.

I cut the old visor out and made a new one for it. That was not fun. I've never tinted anything before and it took me a few tries to get it right. There's still a few bubbles beneath the plexiglass but they are hard to see.
I didn't change the rangefinder/stalk/pivot except for a new paint job.

Thanks for asking.:)

It is a little narrow still, but I have to admit I've grown kind of attached to that shape. When I first put my visor in it, it stretched it out and gave it a more flared look but it didn't set right with me so I took it back out and reset it to how it is now. My color sheme is also WAY off(the green) for the purpose of being film accurate anyway, but I like to think of it closer to being "comic book" accurate.:)

Welcome to the board! :cheers

Looks like you are off to a good start. A lot to learn here, and many of us have worked on these helmets before - so if you need help just ask (but use the search function first )

Looking forward to more progress threads - have fun!

The helmet in that last pic looks like its got a great shape from that angle! Although I do agree that from the front it is still a tad narrow, but you've already addressed all of that.

One thing is for sure, it looks a great deal better than the rubies did before you painted it! Great job!

EDIT: Ok, my bad apparently this thread was necrobumped...

Wow this is solng long ago I barely remember doing it! Oh how the time has passed and how much I have learned since then.
: )
