MR Cast - RotJ Version Paintjob

KaanE

Well-Known Hunter
Well, that's my first "painting" thread :D I bought a few months ago a NICE cast of a modified MR Boba helmet. First I thought I was going to do it PP#3 style, but after I thought, 'If I'm going to do just one Fett costume, should I do a "seen on screen" one?' and then I said 'YES!'. I saw everyone was doing an ESB costume so I thougt a pure RotJ would be really nice. That's what I'm trying to achieve, a RotJ as seen on screen, not a MoM or a AoSW one, just a Hero RotJ as I think it should be (as seen in the Jabba the Hutt cave).

I have been doing a research for the colours. Here I can only buy Humbrol colours so I will use some colours suggested by other members, and some I think are closer. Here is the list:

RotJ Helmet Humbrol Colours List:

Humbrol #88 - Green of Back Panels.

Humbrol #77 - Blue/Green of Upper Cheeks.

Humbrol #31 - Green on Dome and Cheeks.

Humbrol #82 - Killstripes.

Humbrol #67 - Dark Grey all over the Helmet.

Humbrol #100 + Humbrol #73 - Red on Mandibles. 1:1 ratio.

Humbrol #191 - Chrome Silver for Base Layer.

Special thanks (like on TV ) go for Mojo-Fett, terminalfettler, evan4218 & micke.

I took the pics really bad, with the light at the wrong side, and with the helmet with "sanded primer", next time I will take better pics, I'm sorry :facepalmWell, no more words & here are some pics of the WIP:

Sweet bro! I'm very interested to see if you have mad skills with an airbrush. ROTJ version should be interesting!! I've had TF's 50 step ROTJ thread bookmarked for about a year so it is on my list as well!!!

Thank you for the coments! I still need to work on the rear vents. I will also sand the primer of the ear sides. Why? Because the RotJ helmet seems to have been painted with the ears on! Under the ears, the helmet is clean, with the gelcoat on the surface.

Another thing you will notice is that I haven't done some scratches on the dome (2 on the top and 1 on the frontal visor area), that's beacuse I think they were add after the paintjob.

BTW, I'm still searching the greeblies which go on the MQ-1 board. They look to be from a model. They also have a number on it, I can't remember it right now.

I must receive my paints in a few weeks (2?).

Just to tell you that I haven't tried the red on mandibles, but I took some pics of the real colors under sun light, and I mixed both colors with photoshop at 50% each one (this has always worked for me, at least for now...). Here is a comparison, first red is the clean red (no weathering), the dark red is the same red but with weathering, and the under pic is the real RotJ under... It looks sun light, but could not be sun light...

I think it will work well in the real life... (y)

I added them by hand, not Dremel. IMO it gives you more precision doing it by hand. (y) If you look at pics #1, #2 & #5 you're seeing the scratches.

The red on the actual helmet appears very saturated, I would tend to go with the one on the left in your picture, you will probably find, depending on your base coat, that it appears different once you spray it on, you can then weather it more to deepen the colour if needed, I feel the one on the right is significantly darker, keep up the good work (y)

Hi HeadlessHunter, actually both are the same colour, the only diference is that the one on the right is weathered. The colour I'm going to use is the one on the left, I just did a comparison to show how could it be weathered :D

I have finished all the preparation work!!! Yeha!!! I have opened and sanded the rear vents, filled some little things, sanded the ears to show the gelcoat as with the real one, etc.

I have also received my paints so maybe tomorrow, maybe next monday, I will do the silver base :D (I'm happy, see?)

I haven't attached the ears because they're resin and I'm saving to buy some ali ears. Who knows, maybe tomorrow I change my mind and attach the resin ones...

Here're the pics :D

I'm sorry because the flash (and the primer too) makes the scratches look soft and some of them look diferent of what they're.

With the silver paint they should be more clear, I hope so... :)

Thank you bobshek (y)

Update. I have add the silver layer. I have used Humbrol Metallic Chrome Silver (#101) for it. My airbrush had some problems at first and I ended with some Jango Style Hands... They were cool BTW

Here are the pics. I'm sorry, today is cloudy so I have had to use the flash :facepalm
