Kenner Figure Color - Helmet Help

ABH1979

New Hunter
Hey guys,

For the longest time I've wanted to have a Boba bucket done up in the original Kenner colors (Hong Kong version), but I need some help identifying what that particular blue-ish grey is actually identified as.

And then there's the red around the visor and brown shading, to figure out, but first I really just need to know what the base color is.

Any help would be appreciated.

What a great question! I actually just had a look through my paints and unfortunately I don't really have anything that's close.
I have several grays, but they're all fairly neutral. The one bluish gray I have is too dark.

If you have a hobby shop nearby, I'd recommend looking at Testors Model Master military colors. There's quite a few German RLM
grays as well as British and NATO grays that might be really close to the tone you're looking for.

Thanks, superjedi -- I'll look into those model paint colors.

I was thinking about getting a Boba Bandai model, and also doing it up in the same Kenner colors, so that would also help with that project.

Hope it's okay to revive this topic --

I've postponed my Kenner Boba project for too long, but I still need some help with colors. I've found this Humbrol color that seems pretty damn close, but I can't find it in a spray paint can.

I used an app to try to further identify the correct blue-gray color, and here are some of the results:

Any help or guidance in locating this color (or something close to it) in spray can form, would be greatly appreciated.

I have about 30 colors of testors not rattle cans....but Ill take a look and compare to my Kenner figure. I have a vintage one at home. I think it would have to be mixed though to be honest. I think someone did one a while back?

You should see the Life Size Kenner Figure at Disney World.

I haven't seen it in person, but yeah, if I had 3k (and the space) to blow on a life-size Kenner Fett, I'd be tempted.

I have the gentle giant Jumbo 12in figure, to go along with my vintage and rocket-firing re-issue figure:

But I want my very own Kenner Boba Bucket.

If you're looking for a spray paint color, would rustoleum slate blue be close? I work at a local Ace hardware and looking at it on the shelf it doesn't look too bad... might be a little too grey though.

I have a fairly good run with Humbrols when I get time to paint, and I may look at a couple of their shades - Middle Blue (69) and Sea Blue(47) - or a custom mix of the two or similar. The tin lids can be a little deceiving, but when you see the 47 sprayed ( on the plane in the example I found online), it may be a touch bright, but certainly in the right family if toned back a touch :)

Maybe. I'm looking at it online -- in some pics it looks very close, and in others it looks to have too much of an aqua tone.

Cameras and monitors will do that to grey....hence a lot of people paint the backpack parts on the TD blue...even though they were grey I think you should do it whatever color you like....To some it wont have a blue tint to it.

I have some Rustoleum "Spa Blue" in my garage. Looks about right.
