Is Humbrol Silver 11not that shinny?

Hello Everybody,

Nice to meet you all, this is my first post though I've been on here for quite some time now reading all of your amazing threads. I gotta say you guys rock, lots of great information and talent on here, keep up the good work everyone.

Now that I said hello, I might as well get involved with some interactions. Am in the middle of my first ever ESB helmet build and so far I am having a blast and the work seems to be coming out great! Though, I am coming to some questions that I feel I should have answered before I keep moving along. so..

I recently finished the back panels on my ESB helmet and am a bit concerned about the look of the Humbrol Silver 11. It doesn't seem to pop off like all of the images on this forum. I guess now that I uploaded the image, it kinda looks a bit brighter. Do you guys feel like its not as bright in person? Is there shinier solution to this or am i just tripping?

It isn't particularly shiny. A chrome colour might be a better match for the old floquil silver colours 'bright silver' and 'old silver'. Both are far shinier than humbrol 11.

Humbrol 11 has changed in the past couple of years, its gone from a metallic sheen to a dull silver/ grey with very little metallic shine. I use a mixture of 27002 metal cote and silver 11 roughly 2:1. The reason I mix the two is the 27002 metal cote on its own can cause issues with subsequent layers lifting or peeling, adding silver 11 seems to stop this.

Daaaum! Wish I could known this earlier. Oh well, atleast its only the back panels. I can finish the rest with the mix. I've actually been following your thread Terminal Fett, its pretty awesome, thank you. Just to confirm on the 2:1 ratio. Is the 27002 metal cote the 2?

That's right on the ratio. I would recommend a test strip to make sure you are happy with the mix. Maybe you can add some of this mix on the rear panels to bring the silver up a bit?

It's been stopped at US customs on a number of occasions prior to this but this time it came from outside the US.

The older colours with the more toxic formulas as well as the metallic colours normally seem to get stopped. It's frustrating to think you've got something snagged only to later hear you ain't getting it. As the silver is so prominent I was determined to get it. My other big score was Polish crimson.
