Helmet fitting

I just use industrial velcro with the adhesive back. Just peel and stick.

I actually had problems with mine staying stuck to the helmet. I noticed that once it warmed up from sunlight the velcro didn't want to stay on the helmet. I took some quick set two part epoxy and put a very thin layer on the back of the velcro and I haven't had a problem since.

I live just north of Mckinney........all of my troops are in Dallas...........just fyi.

I have trooped fourth of July parades which you can guess is blazing hot. If you are buying the good stuff as far as Velcro goes and the inside of the helmet is prepared properly with a little bit of sanding then I have had no trouble with it staying in place. I think I probably troop some of the hottest troops in the country too. The Rangers game in August/ September is another blazing hot troop.....

If you want to add the epoxy or CA glue as extra support I am sure it won't hurt anything but I haven't needed it.

I actually forgot to sand the inside of the helmet before I attached the Velcro. I can't specifically remember which brand I bought but it was the stuff labeled as industrial strength from Joanne's fabrics. I also did sand the inside before using the epoxy and now I doubt it will ever come out.

yea the industrial strength Velcro actully takes 245hrs to fully set. It even says it on the box i believe. i give the area a light sand and then wipe it down to make sure they is no dirt/resin/fiberglass dust etc on there. you can also use a hairdryer and heat up the velcro a little bit after you peel the backing off. Then stick it in place. Ive trooped 90+ degree weather troops for a couple of hours and never had any issues with the industrial strength Velcro. As a matter of a fact there were times i wanted to remove it from things and have a very very hard time getting the stuff off lol Keep in mind the "industrial strength" is referring to the adhesive!

Thanks for making this thread because not gonna lie my heads not to big so i was just wondering how is my head going to fit in this and not wobble but this thread is really giving me a ton of ideas on how to do so Thank you man!

I'm in the middle of building a costume for my son and was thinking of scrounging the foam liner out of one of his old bike helmets. I would think you could separate the shell from the Styrofoam interior and cut/shape that to fit inside the helmet. The bonus there being you have a chin strap to help keep it on your head in place and wouldn't be to hot. Like others have said foam would work or the interior of a hard hat would be great because those are made to keep the hat away from your head. It would take a bit of fit up but would work great I would think.

I have seen people do that with TIE helmets that are oversized. At worse some of the OLD glue needs to be scrubbed off otherwise it won't adhere correctly.
