Which helmet for an average-sized guy?

Hey everyone,

It occurred to me recently that one of the things that makes a costume look "off" to me from the movie version is not being able to see the person's neck, such as when they're wearing a helmet that's too big for them.

I have an MSH1 that I'm about to start working on after I finish practicing on a DP95. Before I spend all of my time and effort on my MSH1, is there a more movie-accurate bucket that might fit someone 5'9"?

Thanks for any advice,
GG

I'm about 5'-11 and his fits my head just right. Of course a little padding may be needed to get it to set right on your head. I've seen some buckets that are either too big or too small for that shape and size of the person. That alone will make or break the costume.

the master replicas and mystery helmets work well on 5'9"... that's what i am.

the only ones i've tried that don't work well are the msh2 and the hs (cast metal). they are both too big for us short guys.

you can also cheat a bit to get more height... pad the inside to the point where your chin is just concealed at the bottom. the horizontal slit will be above your eyes, but you can look out through the middle.

between the shoes, lifts in the shoes and padding in the helmet, i get up to just about 6' in the costume.

Wow great thread SJ...thanks!

I've just returning to this hobby after almost 5 years, and I swear everything has changed so much from what we once knew.

When I left it was still, "for ESB, flare that sucker until you hear the helmet start cracking!".

This weekend I posted pics of my new Ladysewforus flightsuit in the Soft Parts forum, and after looking at them, I'm looking for some opinions.

In the pic below, I'm wearing my completely untouched fiberglass MSH1. Before I start trimming and painting this bucket (which I absolutely love), do you guys think I look a little too bobble-headed in it?

The reason I ask is because if it looks silly on me, maybe I should keep it intact and put it for sale, or trade it for another bucket that fits me better. I'm sure some of the taller folks around here might be interested in a larger bucket like the MSH.

Thanks for any advice.

nah looks terrible - sell the MSH1 to me!!!

lol no honestly - it looks perfect IMHO; not bobbled headed at all.

then again - I come from TK would which until fairly recently at least half of troopers looked bobble headed anyways.

defo for keeps that lid is

Madmartigan - LOL! Actually I was bumping into lots of things with my knees when I was trying to take those pics with my camera set on a timer. If you think it's hard seeing out of a bucket with a visor installed, try it without one!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I feel much better knowing that the helmet isn't too big. You guys are right, it's also hard to judge when you're not wearing any armor at all. When I get the shoulders on, it may be an even more proportionate fit.

I'm very relieved. I love the MSH1, and would have a hard time parting with it. For me, it's the perfect ESB lid (this old pic totally sold me on it). I was just worried it wasn't the perfect lid for a 5'9" Boba :)
