Getting a helmet - where to start?

With a paintjob, new visor, and a little shaping, you can get the DP95 and 96 to look pretty good. You will need to go to ebay or the occasional sale in the Cargo Hold for a DP. Just go with a DP95 or 96, and stay away from the 97 and Rubies. You should be able to get one in the $50-60 range. Here is a DP96 I did up awhile back-

I think I'll post here because I have basically the same questions!

I'm also female and even shorter (5 nothin!) and not only did I want to have some bits custom shaped, one size fits all hats do NOT fit me. My last two graduations, no amount of bobby pins would hold that damn thing on my head! I'm about to try a custom, but most of the time everything I'm reading you have to know what's being talked about to understand what's going on! I was thinking about doing a cardboard and I guess covering it with... bondo? but I've seen some where it looks like plaster instead of really smooth, so I don't know if I should go that route. Any hints on good scratch-built methods for prop n00bs?

There are soo many types of helmets its nuts! heh... Wat would you guys say is the best/ most accurate helmet and is it 501st worthy or do you suggest totally making your own? I've heard different names of helmets thrown out there but are these helmets you guys troop in or just display?

Also is being 6'3 going to cause problems??? Im a bit on the taller side.

Scruffy I wish I knew more about this so I could be of some help :( heh...

the helmets that bradleyfett makes are smallish. they are vaccuum formed, so the details aren't the sharpest in the world, but they come together nicely.

for a sense of scale, here's the MB next to a mystery helmet:

I personally really like Marrowsun, Sgt. Fang, or Fettpride(all members here), however since your a young lady and you want to look proportioned a DP 95 might not be a bad choice since it's smaller, just make sure you get one with the WHITE interior. About $50-$100 off ebay if you can find one.

what's the difference between the white interior and the green?
Better material, doesn't warp as easy. Harder to find, but alot nicer.8) If you do score a DP 95 make sure you hit it with a couple of coats of "sandable primer" first otherwise the emamel won't dry completly a will remain tacky.:( Also you need to allow alittle more drying time between coats for some reason as compared to resin or fiberglass.:facepalm

I had that problem with my '95, which was the first helmet I owned. I've also heard the horror stories of people having left their vinyl noggis in a warm car, only to find it's gone soft and the original shape has changed.

My next helmet was a DP Deluxe. Forget about it! About $650 down the tubes. The visor was flush with the mandibles, rather than recessed, and it was puttyed on the sides so the wings of the Tvisor were too short.

For a time, there were some castings of modified DP Deluxes available. I even saw fiberglass recasts of the undersized DP '95.

My next helmet was a MS (movie sized). Very nice and good craftsmansship. Later, the bar was raised by Fettpride to make the MS2 (second version).

Then I got the MR (Master replicas) version. Best yet, except for the pinched visor that I'll need to modify.

Don't have a Mystery, but would like to, just to paint up another variation.

I like fiberglass, but as said before, for your size, the DP '95 might be the way to go. But I did fight the tackiness problem.

Good luck on your search!

I think on a smaller frame the DP95s look better. My son is 11 and he definitely looks better in a DP95 than a MS1 or Sgt Fang, which I own all three of these. i'm willing to sell my DP 95s, I have two. As well, as a Rubies
jango that I cut the cheap visor out of and I'm looking to sell my MS1 (Marrow Sun) if any of you are interested. Will probably be putting them up in the cargo hold soon. Also have some ROTJ gauntlets that I am going to part with soon too. :)

PM me if you're interested.
