First post, introducing myself, and my plans

New Hunter
Hello everyone.

Well, I have a new Home Theatre room that I built in my basement (I can post some pics upon request), and I have a very special spot on the room, which I decided to use to display a Boba helmet. It will basically look like a museum display piece (that is my goal), inside a sort of recessed shadow box in the wall, with lighting at the top. It will look very nice I think.

So I started doing some research, and of course found this wonderful forum. :cheers I will hang around and continue to read up as much as I can.

Now, for me the size of the helmet is not an issue, since it wont be worn. Its purpose is mainly (or solely!) for display. Im on a tight budget, so at least the first revision will have to be a Rubies. Yes, I read a lot about these on the forums, so I know the general sentiment, but I will live with its limitations until I can afford something better.

Well, I did get my Rubies (model 65004) this weekend, and it is made of a sort of hardened rubber. It can be bent with little force, but it generally does keep its shape. This is not the ultra soft variant that I have seen others attempting to work with... those are very very soft and don't keep their shape at all... like those ultra thin rubber masks.

I already reshaped mine and gave it some flare, following the instructions posted by others (heat, shape, cool off...). Next will be to cut the T-Visor and put in place a new one I got from eBay. I will plan on performing only some basic weathering techniques, and will paint the mandible portions dark where they are meant to be dark. This one has only one tone.

I will post some pics, but I know this will get no where near the level of detail that some of you are after. I just don't have the time or skills. Perhaps I can buy a nice mask from one of you when you decide t let go of it. Or, if someone wants to practice their weathering/painting techniques on mine, I can lend it to you for free :)

Thanks!

Best of luck with your project. As you've already said, a Rubies will suffice for now, but if you have a chance to see a well done helmet up close, you'll want the good one. Especially if you're topping off an entertainment room, a well done Fett helmet adds an amazing touch. (y)

Pics would be great.

gnolivos,

Welcome to the forum! Please keep us up to date with the progress on your Rubies.

And as for Home Theatre...pics would be great! I'm planning construction of a man-room in my basement for late next year, so I love to see what others have done!

Hi Gnolivos! You've really come to the right place for all things Fett.
Very cool idea about displaying a helmet in your theater room.
But beware! Once you start. . . it's an unstoppable force.

Put up some pics of your theater room. (y)

Gnolivos, welcome aboard :cheers

goodluck and have fun w/ your fett conquest. i myself started w/ a DP helmet and wanted it modified and re-painted for a display piece...well as the bug took a bite im now going for a full fett to display

id love to see pics of ur theatre room!.
and which version are u going to do ur helmet in??

have fun! and there are alot of great and talented folks here that are glad to help out if u need it (y)

I'm a little ashamed to say I don't fully understand the different Fett versions. I guess there are 2 main coloring schemes/variants. I tried searching all over the net for specifics. If someone can point me in the right direction, then that would be great. I know I want the mandibles/cheeks two-tone, with a darker swoop towards the top. It makes the mandible detail stand out, and overall meaner looking :)

OK, I wasn't sure about posting non Fett pics, but since some of you have asked for them, I am putting a few here.

OK, I'm gonna come right out and say this; get rid of the Rubies and go top of the line. Your movie room deserves no less!!!!!!!!! You've put a lot of effort into creating a wonderful space for you to enjoy entertainment.

Picture this, you just finish watching The Empire Strikes Back (for the millionth time ). You then look over to your display and the helmet sitting there looks like Boba himself walked off the screen and set it down for safe keeping. That's what I'm talkin' bout!!!

Talk to some of the helmet makers here and some of the painters. See if they'll let you do the payment/installment plan. You should really do it right. (y)

PM (private message) me if you want info on makers and painters.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The theatre room was done on a very tight budget, but definitely turned out to have that million dollar look. Everyone who has walked in there has had that 'jaw drop' look on their face. The guy who came to repair one of my seats told me this was the nicest room he has ever seen, hands down. (I honestly could not believe what he was saying, since he sees hundreds of these a year). So I challenged him on that, and he just kept admitting the same over and over. I don't know, I guess it does have that million dollar look to it!

Anyhow, back on topic. Budget does not allow for anything better right now. I agree with you all though. In the ned I *will* get a nicer rigid (fiberglass) bucket and that wll replace this much inferior one. I'll start with visor and mild paint/weathering, and keep it there for a while. Then I will upgrade my projector. And then friend Boba. :)

WOW!!! That's a fantastic theater!!!
So when are you inviting the whole board over for movies? ;)

Seriously, that's a sweet set up, and a Boba helmet will look killer in that alcove!

I am thinking of attaching the helmet in place from behind... that way the helmet will appear to just be 'floating' in place. Basically I am building a sort of 'L' shaped tube with some 3/4" PVC pipes. The pipe will be attached to the back wall, and then curve 90 degrees upward. At the top I will put a ployestherine ball. The helmet will rest on it.

When viewed you would not be able to see the attachment because it is directly behind. It will just appear to be 'floating in place, and the angle at which the helmet rests on the ball can be changed. SIde view, angled view, etc...

I think you should do 2 things....

1). Get rid of all the posters and replace them with Star Wars Ones :D

2). Hollow that whole section out, and build a whole Boba Suit and chuck it on a mannequin there...

Thats just my thoughts ;)
