OK. I think I am almost done with the front mandibles. I did a tone of work to the right mandible. The detail on the right side is very hard to get right. I know I am not screen accurate but for my first attempt at this I am happy. I know this is very pic intensive but for those wanting to do this also I thought showing the entire process would be great. I have almost 12 hours into this project now and it seems that it is not even close to being done. I am scared of the back of the helmet. If anyone has any tips let me know.

The back is the hardest part of the helmet IMO and where I always start first because of the work involved. If your going to get burned out, its best to get the toughest part out of the way first.

I totally agree with then above posts, you're painting skills are more than adequate for the task!!

The weathering patterns look spot on and the colours seem very accurate too.

Great job . . . keep us updated on your progress.

thanks guys...I really thought I would not be able to do this. I have suprised myself. About a year ago I tried to paint a VADER classic action helmet and ruined it to the piont that I trashed it. for this project I have done months of research and I must admit the biggest help was getting my MARROW SUN helmet painted by Jordy. Having that as a reference has made all the difference in the world. whats nice is that when this is completed I will wear this one and keep my MS helmet for display only!!

OK. I was bored this morning so I worked on the kill marks. I thought about using TK 409's templates but I decided to hand paint my kill marks.

I first used a pencil to draw them on and then used UP ARMOR YELLOW to paint the outline.

here are a few pics. I will finish them up later tonight.

I finished the kill marks. They turned out better than I expected. I must say that painting them by hand is very difficult and if I ever do one of these bad boys again I will use an airbrush. Notice the nice fade from yellow to orange. I also started to work on the back of the helmet. I am planning on painting this by hand also. I will be using a pencil to outline all of the damage and then paint it.

OK..more work to the back of the helmet. I was not sure what color to use so I tried a mix of Sand and up armor yellow. Very little yellow was mixed in.
I started to use a pencil to outline the battle damage but it was very hard to see. I decided to use a black marker with a fine tip to out line the battle damage.
