DP 96' Redo

Wes

Active Hunter
In anticipation for my new ver2 BM bucket, I wanted to test my abilities on my DP 96' (at least thats what I was told it was)

First I sanded it down using 40 grit, then 60 grit.
Paint thinner bath.
Two coats of Primer sanding in between using 220 grit
Two coats of Aluminum
Matte Clear coat
Liquid Mask
Taped off
2 coats Italian Olive
Matte Clear coat

More masking and all the major work done.

More coming soon!

The ears were just glued on and I popped them off.

This bucket is fiberglass not plastic

Are they supposed to be that rough of a surface? The one I see on BM's website looks smooth as a silk.

I guess that would get a pretty good effect if you do a color wash on it, though.

This thing is beat to hell, which is why I'm using it as a test bucket.

Test buckets are life savers at helping you figure out what works and what you like as far as effect. I look forward to seeing your build up! :)

Great job so far.

are you saying that it as sold to you as a fiberglass cast off of a don post?

Well you guys know I'm a noob on this Fett stuff, so if DP is not Fiberglass, then no its not a DP. This bucket came to me all FG with a resin stalk and RF.:facepalm

It would appear to be a Don Post DELUXE recast.

I have been trying to find another helmet like mine and yours looks close! I have a vinyl '96DP completely in it's original state that is rough like that. I don't know if a few vinyls got cast off the deluxe at the plant but I will take some pics tomorrow at work and post them. I asked about this a few years ago and got no replies.

Oh, and good luck on your paintjob.

The DP deluxe had surface scaring cast into the helmets. Also the dent is the exact same as you will find on the DP deluxe. The earcaps were also cast seperate.

But did they ever cast a DP DLX in vinyl? Mine is green vinyl and has all the surface detail but is one piece. No separate ears. I bought it in a LTM-ish partystore in '99 or '00.
