bmx potty + filler = helmet?

Perhaps, I am not looking at my MSH2 right now, but that is what I thought of the moment I saw it. I forgot BM's dent was textured like that also. But since he mentioned that his helmet was close in measurment to a MSH that is what made me think of that.

Some "how it was made pic's" would be a great thing to provide now...(y)

Just looking at some comparison pic's of both TF and BM buckets and there are lots of minor differences...
but some very strong simularitys also...

I have adjusted the background to be black on TF's pic.
I have filled in a grey visor area on BM's pic.
I have slightly resized the TF pic down smaller.
I have rotated TF pic by about 2 degree's to match the angles.

Its the wavy brow that seemed to stand out the most to me, so i just had to play around and see how close they really matched...

Then...
I used Photoshop's "magic wand" to highlight an area on the front of TF's bucket and "moved" it across onto the BM bucket....

well it fits very well and its very similar to say the least...( i have a picture that shows this but wont post it yet so i dont seem like a pitchfolk weilding villager..)

Now im not trying to start anything here, heck....
I still remember the days of BM being dragged across the coals way back when he first bought out his bucket for show-and-tell...

im just agreeing with above comments that some progress pics might be a wise idea...(y)

surely, if the top is a BMX POTTY helmet then lets just see the inside of the bucket?...;)

Proof-positive of an original scratcher if the POTTY's visible there, aint it?...:)

3 months to build that?!? Man it took me that long to just put a paintjob on mine, that I only consider better than average

Oh my GOD....jaw hits ground big time.

Man that bucket is

I feel as though i have really missed the boat with mine. I am sure all my dimensions are wrong and the b1oody thing aint going to fit on my head :(

well done man

Terminal fettler - your bucket is THE best scratch built i have ever seen, and i have seen quite a few. Please post some pics of the inside and some progress pics (those are a must see)

thanks for all the feedback and comments, firstly superjedi, you're right about the pronounced trim angle, but i kind of liked the way it looked! secondly its a real complement to be compaired with Bobamakers great helmet....the similarities are purely coincidental...to construct my potty ive used as many ref pics from this site as possible, but always referring back to screen images from ESB. i traced images from screen onto perspex, allowing me to line up my helmet by eye and check the shape during construction, crude but effective. the bmx potty was prised off a mates head( i promised him a finished helmet as payment!)all the vent holes were filled and basic trimming and sanding done( it made me wonder wether the original helmet was bike related as one of the vent holes was close to the dent?) i then curved 2mm plastic sheet to form the front and back. this formed a tube shape rather than flairing all the around, i had to fix a bar inside to produce desired ear flair. this pulled the back of the helmet inwards, forming an ideal starting point for the grill. once the frame work for the grill was in place i filled around this to the desired thickness....the rest followed on from there! heres some pictures:

Excellent stuff!(y)

Having the fore-thought to take progress pic's saves you alot of trouble, hence why they were asked for...;)

Great job and now sit back and bask in your glory!(y)

It would be great to get some side by sides with other available buckets for comparisons of size etc...(y)

I have to admit that I thought this thread was going to turn bad real fast. But great googly moogly that is one awesome idea, and a super awesome fett helmet you have there. The buddy that gave up the helmet will be very pleased that he did so, I wouldnt mind having one myself. Im still speechless that you got it that good on your first try, wish I could do the same.

Just from the master-jedi pics I could tell it wasn't a recast, it seems to be a symmetrical sculpt. The MS2 is an A-symmetrical sculpt... behold!

I made them different colors to show the differences!

There you go all it took was some progress pics and the pitchforks and torches go away. Great looking helmet you got there.Very genius way to get it to work.

That's amazing,

do you know what helmet you used as a base?

again, nice work

-=QuinN!
the basic measurements pretty much follow the MSH dimensions, however, i cross referenced at all stages with off screen tracings from as many angles as poss. This may appear very crude ( from the poor photos below it does anyway) but i felt happier trusting my eye. In terms of scale , i think its marginally bigger than an MSH. Using my patented "back door computer screen" (Bill Gates feel free to....) the outlines do match, its just difficult to show through a digital camera lense!
