First time Animefan ESB paintup

MoldyCrow

New Hunter
I bought this helmet well over a year ago but was too scared to make any real progress on it. After switching gears for a while and putting together a set of stormtrooper armor, I've finally decided to get this project off the ground.

So far I've just worked on the back panels to get a feel for my airbrush and the stencil / masking techniques. I'm really happy with it so far, and some of the additional scratches and weathering will help it even more.

Always open to feedback and suggestions on things that could be improved!

I started with the backpanels just a week ago and paunted the dark grey yesterday...I know how you feel! The first step was the hardestvnow I have fun...but before I was scared as hell... [emoji1]

Yeah they're definitely one of the most challenging parts. Looks like you did pretty damn well on it though, especially getting all those little islands of color inside the big silver oceans, those are a pain to stencil out.

With skills like that I'm sure you'll have zero problem with the rest.

Looking good! It's amazing how much the adjacent colors affect the appearance of the others. The concrete looks pale yellow before the green/blue is down. You've got a good start, keep going. The most labor intensive part for me thud far has been the mandibles and band...so much little intricate stuff to mask off.

Thanks for the nice comments!

Looks good! What paint did you go with for the concrete?
The concrete was Humbrol 28 + 103 mixed. I'm not really that happy with the color, but I can live with it. Next time I'll probably try out model master concrete 4876.

Got the white base coat and silver put down over the rest of the helmet. I ended up going way too heavy on the silver so I had some drips, but I'll hopefully be able to sand those out.

Love that table studio setup you got. Makes me wanna paint some miniatures on it.

The green looks a little dark and saturated, but I'm probably absolutely sure that's just the lighting.

That is excellent work on the layers! What did you use to trace down the stencil? It is very sharp and clear. I had a real problem laying anything down over the silver layer.

I've been using Saral tracing paper. I got a pack with a good variety of colors and have just been using colors with good contrast against the current paint color. I've typically used red over the silver layer.

In other news, cheeks are now done:
