I have been commissioned by board member pkbud74 to paint his DVH helmet in an ESB scheme as seen on film. Here she is prepped with a coat of primer. I'll start applying base colors in the morning.

So the reverse layered painting method has eluded me (main colors first, dome green, dark grey spots, then metallic silver damage for example). Do you make an individual stencil for each piece of damage, as opposed to masking the damage (base silver/ metal first, mask damaged areas, then add next colors on top) before painting the next layer of paint on?

It's the same thing as the topical method. And yes, I make a stencil for each scratch and scrape. Some I just trace onto the helmet, others (as in the pic above) I make waterslide decals for and paint directly over them. Then I give it several coats of gloss clear to seal everything down followed by a coat of matte clear and some dustings with various grey spraypaints.
