Sitting here watching Star Wars on spike tv and the wife and i were trying to remember if in any of the movies do they tell what species Yoda is and if they ever show a female from that species. Any one have an answer?

The best to my knowledge the species has never been given a name but there has been a female"yoda".Her name is Yaddle and was a librarian at the jedi temple.
Hope this helped.

There was a green female Yoda called Yaddle in Starwars Tales 5. Confusingly the pink coloured jedi called Yaddle in the movie is also in the comic. The pink Yodaish jedi council member (Yaddle) was male not female and I'm not even sure he is the same species as Yoda.

Thanks guys for the info. I had thought there had been another shown but could not remember where. I knew i could count on the tdh crew....

You are thinking of Even Piell. He is the pinkish male Jedi Council member. Yaddle, while appearing in the tales you spoke of, first made her appearance as part of the Jedi Council in Ep I.

Arrgh! now I'm going to have to re-watch TPM and I hate Ep I! (though strangely that didn't prevent me from purchasing the DVD. I suspect that GL is developing Force mind control powers).

I'm pretty sure he is a Frogling
I could have sworn I seen it on the back of a figure.
if I find it I will post it for you...its not like I have a job or anything...lol

According to wikipedia-
Yoda is portrayed as a wise and powerful Jedi Master in the fictional Star Wars universe. Series creator George Lucas originally wished Yoda to follow his other characters in having a full name: Yoda Minch, but instead opted to have many details of the character's life history remain unknown. Yoda's race has never been stated in any media, canonical or otherwise, and he is merely stated to be of a "mysterious species" by the Star Wars Databank. His race has been called a "tridactyl species" but this simply means that they have three fingers.

Early in the development of Episode IV, Lucas included a species called the Whills, a distant, omnipresent race who were to take the story-teller perspective. It has been postulated by fans that Yoda, Yaddle and Vandar Tokare are Whills; recently, there has been passing reference to a Shaman of the Order of the Whills in the novelization of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, confirming their continued canonical existence in the Star Wars universe. However, Lucas has firmly denied that Yoda's species is in fact that of the Whills. In fact, very little is reported of Yoda's life before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

there you have it....lol

I know what Yoda is, and everyone should too... Yoda isnt a Whill...

He is the evil crossbred lovechild of the Muppets Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy :D

lol Whills however are a starwars species, at least supershadow got that bit right :p...

What they are exactly im not too sure, but from reading Obi Wans Life History on Wiki, he encounters one on his self exile on Tatooine, whilst training himself to become more powerful...
