Windows 7

Never got on the Vista wagon, but just loaded up Windows 7 beta and I have to say, I am VERY impressed! It actually appears to be faster than XP!!! The sad thing is that in my opinion there is really nothing truly new or revolutionary but I think Microsoft has finally been forced to improve their product to a reasonable standard!

I never jumped on Vista either. I didn't even buy into Xp. I got so disenchanted with Ms that I just went Mac full time around the "Me" days. Here's to hoping that the release is a much needed breakthrough for them. Otherwise, they'll continue to sink. There's always been so much potential, it would be a shame to see them fade away. If they could only fix security once and for all - I haven't had an anti-virus program in 5 years

Vista was cool, but a memory hog, and there were some problems with it upon release. I picked up the Windows 7 Beta as soon as it was released, thanks to a friend telling me about it. I've been running it and submitting feedback on it ever since on my laptop.

In fact, on my new.. well, fixed, computer, I installed it, and am using it on this machine. Mainly because XP hates me, but still. I quite enjoy 7, and can't quite for it to be released.

My boss is running build 7057 on his production laptop and loves it. From my own testing it just works. It is what Vista should have been. Yes it uses a lot of system resources but, just looks to run faster. The nice thing is that if you get an error, the OS asks if you want to fix the problem. It then really fixes it. I was hoping 7 would be what we all where hoping for and it looks like it might be. I have read many an article saying that if 7 falls on it's face, people will start moving to Mac and Linux like there is no tommorow.

This is the key....I only browse with Safari now, but still have XP w/Sp3. My PC doesn't run all that well since the format and re-install, it's sluggish and quirky, but it does the trick. If I start hearing that Windows 7 is the end all be all, I might just fork over and buy a full version since my machine's hardware is still very viable in todays market as there haven't been any real breakthrough's there either. Granted that's if my hardware would be compatible with Windows 7....God I hate computers:lol:

Definitely wouldn't consider Windows 7 to be a "breakthrough" which is pretty sad to say. As Asok said, it is what Vista should have been and quite honestly, it is what XP should have been. There is nothing revolutionary about it and that is really sad, but it does seem to just WORK and at this point in the game, that is a great thing to be able to say about a Microsoft product.

In regard to anti-virus software, I haven't used any in over 4 years now and never have a problem. I honestly don't know how people get them so often. Maybe it is just luck, but I have always guessed that it has something to do with not accepting those idiotic forwarded jokes that so many people seem to love and often get a virus from.

Again, wouldn't call Windows 7 the end-all-be-all by any means, but for those who have been annoyed by Vista's failures, I think Windows 7 is a move in the right direction.

I have considered a Mac for the past few years, but I feel their prices are still too high and at least in my experience Mac's don't support the programs I need in a business environment. Very tempting but just can't quite make the switch.

LOL... came so close to getting a MacBook Pro about 2 years ago... just couldn't bring myself to do it. Maybe on the next time around! If they would just get rid of that stupid Apple key... that thing scares me!

Art, do you use any of the creative modes on your camera? Manual mode or just put it on full auto and go from there? LOL...I know the answer, but the Apple key is nothing to be afraid of. LOL

Microsoft reported their first quarterly loss in 23 years this recent Q1. Says something to me about the company, but I run Vista at work because I have no choice. I am a mac man through through otherwise. Eventually this will be a mac here at work but I am mildly excited to see Windows 7 in action, they will eventually catch up to OS X when its OS 15 or something.

Microsoft has to go through these "fail releases" to really get a good one out the door. Look at 98 vs 98SE, ME vs XP, now Vista vs 7. I think it's an unfortunate trend for MSoft that users have to be beta testers for a couple years before a good version of the OS comes our way. I have 7 on my machine here at work, and I agree that it is very much what Vista should have been.

The Mac is a great computer, but it's like buying a $100 box of candy and only getting 1 caramel and the rest are coconut and strawberry cream. I want more variety of usage for my $$.
