Star wars display

Drax

Hunter
So I have recently learned that a star wars display will be taking place at a library local to me. The person who will be showing off their collection of models, props, and costumes. The owner is Dr. David West Reynolds and he's written a few star wars reference books and just enjoys collecting stuff. Well just as chance would have it my father is a maintenance mechanic for the library systems and will be in charger of putting up the display. So there is a very very good chance that I will get to be handling some screen used props along with screen used models. So far what I've seen is Obi Wan's lightsaber from ANH, a very detailed model of the Millennium Falcon, a 501st quality TK, Luke's ceremony jacket and medal from ANH (not sure if used on screen or replica), and one of Luke's screen used belts. I believe the belt is from ROTJ since it doesn't have a holster for a blaster but I havn't seen the belt in person yet to tell. If anyone wants some pictures be sure to ask since I may be getting to try this stuff on and toy around with it for a bit lol.

Sounds awesome! Where is the library and when is the display? Would be cool to see in person if its within distance!

It will be at the Louisville Kentucky Southwest branch library. The display is supposed to officially start 3/26/16 and last for a month an a half I believe. There will be other fandom displays to fill space as well but I'm interested in the star wars lol. :D

V__6FFE.jpegJust got a picture of the belt from my dad. It certainly is Rotj.

Sweet! I live a little south of Lexington! Definitely gonna check this out!

Is it the one on Dixie Highway?

Oh that's awesome man! Yep that's the one. They built a brand new building about a year ago but its close to where the old on was.

That is really cool! It seems like something like this is always too far away to be plausible.

Please post any other pics you get!

Ok an update on the display. It will only be up on 3/26/2016. There is another display that will be running for the month an a half. Hopefully I can get some hands on time with the goods before it's put on display. By the way drokkul are you going to the Lexington comic and toy convention this weekend?

No probably not. I've gone a few times in the years past and enjoyed it, but there's really not that much there for me anymore. I've kind of fallen out of comic/toy interest (not turning in my nerd card...I still like all that stuff I just don't have room for it anymore lol) My passion for the last 4+ years has been retro video games. I love to play and collect these old relics to remind myself of simpler times. I have over 600 NES carts, over 600 Sega Genesis, and almost 500 SNES games now (Oh...I guess that's where all my room went lol) and while they usually have a vendor or two at the LCTC they are usually way overpriced or vendors from stores/shops in the surrounding areas that I can go to anytime.

I think my biggest problem with Cons is that they are a great place to see and get an autograph from some "stars", but over the years what these people charge for an autograph or just a picture has become ridiculous. If you go there as a person with multiple interests just getting 3 autographed pics could be a couple hundred+ bucks. Its unfortunately become not much more than a pathetic cash grab.

I was there one year and they were doing some group photo deals like the partial cast of some show or movie (I honestly can't remember who it was) and the "stars" weren't even smiling/shaking hands with the people as they came up. At least smile in the photo! The whole ordeal basically looked like kids and parents posing with cardboard standees and it was $250 for this "honor". Actually...thats the last time I went. Maybe thats what turned me off now that I think about it.

Haven't checked their website to see what they are offering this year or the autograph prices (I always find it funny that the people there that probably need the $ the most charge the least)

Sorry about the rant lol,

I would so much rather go to something like the display you mentioned. I've been watching the Smithsonian Power of Costume schedule to see if they will come anywhere within 2-3 states of KY (keeping fingers crossed) Its in New York currently Thru Sept., but haven't decide if I want to go there or not.

I'm fairly close to you, but not for a day trip for this, unfortunately. I would love to see pictures of the Luke Skywalker stuff, if you happen to take a few pictures.

Thanks for sharing this, btw.

I hear you completely man. I go just to walk around in costume and see the random stuff the venders sell lol. Not once have I paid for an autograph or a photo and unless its someone I'm very interested in I don't plan to. Also that sounds like a serious collection of games. I have a few sega genesis games myself and I can never seem to come across Vectorman 2 unless its online. I still kick myself for it but when I was about 7 I really enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked. Man I would pull apart anything and put it back together just to see the insides. This included the SEVEN NES systems that I had somehow gotten. Needless to say they didn't work after I got them back together and I never got to play Zelda again until N64. Sad day.

Yeah. There are usually some good costumes present and I see that Yaya Han and Jessica Nigri are going to be there. Those ladies have two of the biggest...er...I mean...ARE two of the biggest names in cosplay ;) . I don't really do the costuming myself (my Boba has always been for a prop display) but I can definitely appreciate the time, effort, and the $ (so much $ :() that goes into it.

Have a safe trip to Lexington and have fun!

The gentleman that owned all of this stuff wrote two star wars reference books. It seemed like most of the stuff he had was small figures used for reference in the books. But he did have some large stuff to. In fact the stuff that was put on display wasn't even a fourth of the total collection. Under all the tables there were plastic tubs full of things that they just didn't have room to display. Also supposedly the owner has his own full Fett along with a few other costumes. Sorry if the quality of the photos isnt good i was using my phone. Unfortunatly they only allowed two people to have a key to the display and while my father had one at one time he had to give it up. That meant no hands on time. :(
These are the books he wrote along with a TK and some cardboard cut outs.

I really wish there was more room to recreate the battle on Hoth lol.

Hanger scene from ANH.

Lol I didn't mean to attach that thumbnail yet so I guess I'll start with that now. Most of the stuff in this case actually made appearances in the films. I don't know if the training ball did or not. the graflex is a replica I'm sure but it was pretty accurate. Apparently the t-tracks kept falling off when it was being handled(played with) that my dad had to glue them on lol.

An actual part of the door at Mos Eisley
WP_20160324_001.jpg
Some greebles and a rank display that were in one of the films.
WP_20160324_019.jpg

Also there were parts of the deathstar model used in ANH.

Back to the other display case now. Interestingly enough on the floor behind this poster were replicas of the graflex and vaders saber and I'm not sure why they weren't on display.

The small pieces of rock are things that were picked up around the set when they were filming Mos Eisley. I never knew that that pride rock was in the star wars universe......
Well Disney does own both now so I'll let it slide.
WP_20160324_010.jpg
More recreated scenes and rocks from the filming locations.
WP_20160324_012.jpg
More rocks.
WP_20160324_013.jpg

Man this guy has a lot of figures.
WP_20160324_009.jpg
The Falcon is pretty detailed. It actually had Han and Chewwy sitting in the cockpit.
WP_20160324_006.jpg
This is either the first or second vertebrae of the greater krayt dragon skeleton from ANH. Supposedly a friend of the owner has the skull mounted on his mantle.
The medal is actually metal. It weighs about 5 pounds.
WP_20160324_017.jpg
They decided to display the replica Obi Wan robe and saber as if he had just been defeated by vader.
WP_20160324_016.jpg
And finally the only Fett in the case. I was surprised that there wasnt more Fett stuff but I was even more surprised that the only figure was from the holiday special.
