Small mods to my SSC Life-Size Boba Fett (lots of pics)

It's no secret that Sideshow's Life-Size Boba Fett has some less-than-accurate details. During Comic-Con, I noticed they had made some updates to it to remedy a few of the problems, most notably, the god-awful neck... I reached out to Sideshow and explained I had been one of the first buyers and as such, my Boba left a bit to be desired. My main question was to see if I could get a new helmet (best case scenario) or even a new neck. They responded saying updates had been made to the whole body, as such, it new fit together differently than my model. To say I was annoyed is an understatement. After owning this piece for more than a year and thinking it looked downright strange that whole time, I decided it was time to make some mods.

For the neck, I couldn't quite bring myself to cut into a $7500 item, so I enlisted the aid of a friend who understands my love of collectables. He made it over and cut about an inch off of the neck.

After a bit of time, I began thinking of ways I could take it even further and decided the range finder had always bothered me, as it was just a chunk of black plastic. pre_paint.jpg No detail whatsoever. Without replacing the whole thing, the best I could do was paint it. I found a nice, light gray, that in a small amount looks similar (enough) to frosted glass. I also painted the "LEDs" on top. post_paint.jpg post_paint_LEDs.jpgIf you notice, too, there is a slight glare from the screen inside. When I was at Home Depot getting my paint, I had a semi-brilliant idea: I purchased gloss sealer and after painting the gray, I taped off the rest and hit the screen with a few shots of the gloss coat which subtly mimics the screen's reflection. It isn't something your eye is normally drawn to, for sure, but it adds a touch of realism.

I also painted the wrist darts. 20160905_175226.jpg

Thoughts?

I would love to see some better pictures of the chest armor, jetpack, and helmet if you would be so kind! The neck does look a lot better cut down.

Are the darks casted into the gauntlet?

I'll gladly take more pics of him for you, rnbuda! Do you want the pieces removed for the pictures, left on the figure, or both?

And no, the darts aren't part of the gauntlets. They're made out of plastic. I assume they were molded separately to prevent breakage? Do you want pics of the gauntlets, too?

As for cutting the neck more... I've thought about it. I may take another half inch off. I'm just worried about taking too much off and not being able to go back if I hate it.

So you called them and they said they they would
not fix the issues with your piece, but they have fixed it on others? I would be having a fit. Just another reason why sideshow will never see any more of my money unless the piece is from hot toys.

No, they've updated it since the initial release, I assume after all the backlash within the community and the collective "what the...?" the production run yielded. According to the guy I spoke to, they've redesigned the gauntlets, armor, as well as the body, and the flight suit. From the pics from comic con I saw, it looks like the paint application was improved a little on some of the parts, especially the right arm's shoulder armor. But nothing significant, really.

It's interesting to note that the price on it has also gone up a thousand dollars (literally, a thousand dollars...) since I bought it.

What ever is easier for you! I feel like this piece has never been properly photographed!

Ok, cool. I'll gladly show as detailed a breakdown as I can! I may just do a photobucket (do people still use that...?) so I can just upload all the pics at once.

Ok, and here we go. If there is anything else you'd like pics of, let me know!
