Selling Advice

Hey all,

I have found a buyer for my ROTJ SE Fett and was wondering if anyone could provide me some advice on how to safely make such a large transaction. I have sold many Star Wars props, but nothing in this price range. I generally do business through Paypal and have never had any issues - would hate for my first issue to be over a $6,000 transaction. My other concern is shipping. Do any of the common shippers offer insurance for something so expensive? Any other thoughts or advice is welcome. Thanks all.

cbrant...paypal would be the best bet, you have a blanket of protection as long as it is emailed to a verified address and have them sign for it!! As for insurance, do not use USPS. I had and issue where a blaster was damaged due to USPS handling. USPS claimed since there is no "standard" or set price on the item they could not honor the value requested. Thus the claim was denied. That is some BS! What was the point of insurance right?

Indeed Paypal...unless theyre close to you....but shipping is shipping and they'll insure whatever for whatever...pack it good and maybe ship the helmet by itself....

If international shipment, then I highly recommend money order transfer or Western Union. PayPal is good and money order it if you don't have verified Paypal. If you can get an address and phone number for the buyer before shipment .....also would be beneficial; easier for private investigator to track them down if you get a bad transaction or verify/research your buyer.

If your using PayPal remeber to factor in fees if the buyer insists on paying for goods and services as 4% of 6g would be a big bite out of your profit / selling price . If your thinking of selling anything else and sending internationally I would recommend using eBay who now offer a global shipping program . You only have to pay for the parcel to reach your local eBay depot . eBay then send it on to the seller guaranteeing it's safe delivery etc . The buyer pays for the postage when purchasing the item at the check out in eBay .

I always get scared with pay pal as a business transaction, the buyer can come back 90 days later and ask for his money back and get it no matter what.If the buyer wants his money back 28 days later and u spent half of it then what you will be -3000 ...that's crazy ! I would have him friend u the money to be honest it's the only way to protect your self if your worried and using PayPal method.

anything going OVERSEAS is a huge risk....FedX or UPS are great global services

A common thing with buying/selling on eBay is that the buyer pays for insurance. I know with UPS you can insure for any reasonable amount, and there is a scale for what the charge is. For a $6000 item have some documentation on how it's valued at that. For example if you have the emails or posts that show you bought certain things for xyz amount, then that helps. I know when I shipped a TV to my inlaws that it went on some type of courier, not a standard shipping company like FedEx or UPS.

Also is there a way you can verify the buyer, like do they have an eBay account and what is the feedback on it? And yeah, waiting the period where they can demand payment back is a pain. I can tell from a buyer's perspective that when I had to open a case because an eBay seller didn't ship something (amount was approx $250) and didn't respond that they did do some rudimentary investigation. They gave the seller 10 days to respond before doing anything. Since he had no tracking number, etc, then he even if he responded he would have lost. So make sure you do delivery confirmation and have it verified that they received it.

Trust, but verify!
