Rocketeer or Will?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I can't decide whether or not to make a costume of The Rocketeer or Will from the game Dark Void. Will was inspired by the Rocketeer so they are very similar costumes. Personally I think Will looks cooler, but a lot more people would understand the Rocketeer costume and therefore it might be more fun to wear. What are your thoughts?

I think they both look great man, but just like the clean look of the rocketeer better. Good movie, and very recognizable costume there sir.

Yeah, I think I might go for the Rocketeer. Simpler and I have the files for it, where with Will I've been having to make the templates from scratch. Which is a pain with this jetpack.

Note: This is not my work^

I've got a Rocketeer costume. It's surprisingly not a cheap costume, if you're going for a more accurate look. I love the movie, the comics, and the character is pretty awesome...however, after going to a few conventions, or halloween parties.....I was bummed that not a lot of people recognized the character as much as I did. But the ones that did...oh man...it was like they were re-living that childhood moment of when they first watched the movie. I'm actually gonna do a few upgrades in the next few months to make it better. Let me know if you're interested in a few tips. Evil Rocketeer on the RPF has a great thread on doing a budget vs. screen accurate one.

Yeah, I think I'm going to make a Rocketeer costume for sure. As much as I'm enjoying Dark Void it's nowhere near as classic. I would be interested in any tips you can offer and I'll check out that RPF thread. Thanks for the help!

I won't get started on this for while though, it'll be on the back burner until Toronto Comicon is over in march. Before then I have to make a lot of improvements to my Boba Fett costume, fix a few things on my Starlord costume, help somebody make an Assassin's Creed costume, complete a Link costume, and help some buddies make two sets of ODST armour.

I need to soften the leather jacket up as it's a bit rough - the buttons are very stiff, and the jacket is a pain to put on; the pants and boots need some mending; the gauntlets need a touch up; I'm debating getting the cast jetpack kit from MOM...but it's a swift kick to the junk at $950.

Good luck with your build!

Gotta love Joe Johnston stuff, always awesome. If it weren't for the spindly arm and leg pieces I'd make an Iron Giant costume, one of my favourite designs of his.

Always loved the rocketeer...maybe one day I'll build one too. DP yours is awesome looking.

It's definitely a fun build...but there are a few pieces like the jetpack and gauntlets that overwhelmed me - it was my first time trying to achieve anything remotely accurate. Now I'm thinking more and more about getting the cast of the jetpack. Here is the link to the kit: http://www.monstersinmotion.com/car...ocketpack-prop-replica-model-hobby-kit-p-6379.

There is another guy, Mr.Pinski, that cast his own scratch build, and was selling it for $700. Here is his etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/MrPinskiProps. He does more Dredd props now, but I'm sure he still does it. Here is the build thread: http://www.therpf.com/f9/rocketeer-jet-pack-wip-finished-pics-pg-5-a-158957/

And I thought boba was expensive. Haha. Like I just finished a screen accurate royce (from predators) costume and that wasn't cheap but yeh between leather and the rocket pack shoot
