The Phoenix has landed!

Hi gang,
For any of you who follow 'real space' tech, did you watch the Science Channel's coverage of the Phoenix lander touching down on Mars tonight?
It was pretty cool! Should be an interesting science mission. They're hoping to sample ice just under the topsoil in the north polar region and analyze it for the potential for organic molecules.
I love when things go right for NASA. :)

Being a good portion of the Lander was developed here in Tucson and the UofA will be playing such a large part in the research end of of the mission Iv'e watched this since the begining. It takes me back to the Viking Missions in the 70's , I got that same feeling during the last 7 minutes of the flight .
It was almost overwhelming .
Can't wait for the new pictures .

Space travel is cool and all but I think we should focus more on our own planet before we do colonize another planet and destroy it to with war and other things.

Exactly how much is known about our planet?

I can't say I agree with this fully, but you are right. I think we should put more research to our own planet. Space research is an awsome thing that has many benifits (I swear I go through this argument once a month), but the fact that there is perhaps thousands of animals here on this planet that haven't been classified by modern science is something we should look into. (Another thing we should look into, volcanic warming of the oceans, but thats another story. ;)) I do love the thought of people examining things that no man has ever been to/seen with their own eyes. I know on CNN, when they where couting down the landing all I could think about was what a veiw the lander had.

If we would put more money into hands that could be trusted with it, trusted with experiments and research, and trusted with sharing the truth, I'm sure we could advance much faster, and find the simple answers we're all looking for.

EDIT - Mabey this time they'll find an Ewok or something. :p ;)
