So last night I was at the Con and toward the end of the night they kept announcing over the loudspeaker that Friday, Sat and Sunday they would no longer allow any props into the convention. When I got home I saw why

Unreal. I understand they are concerned about safety but banning all costume props? Sounds like they just did a poor job of checking props.

I hate reading about this. Banning fake and prop weapons, magic wands if you can believe it, won't make it any safer. Some dirt bag wants to do harm, they'll figure out a way. If they had the simplest of weapons checks at the entry his REAL weapons would have been found. Fake weapons have never been a threat, except to those who don't bother to discern between reality and make-believe.

Exactly. It was total OVERKILL. Not even Harry Potter wands were allowed. Craziest part, multiple vendors were selling the exact same props inside that cosplayers were told they couldn't bring in. There was a god damn REAL sword and knife vendor inside selling deadly weapons! Ridiculous. I totally understand the safety aspect but bumping up security, strengthening weapons check points at the entrance (not after ticketing) and increasing the eyes on the floor, would have been sufficient. The vibe was noticeably off because of it but some clever individuals resorted to holstering bananas which provided a good laugh. I was pretty bummed, this was supposed to be my first native con with the Dune Sea Garrison but left the suit at home. I don't care what anyone says, you can't be canon ESB without the blasters. Probably would have made me take my left gauntlet off since the rocket could have potentially been used as a stabbing weapon LMAO :unsure

So there's no rule set in place preventing someone from buying a sword or axe from vendor x, and going on a killing spree inside the con? Nice. Well thought out by the idiots in charge....
Be prepared for what PCC has done to become the norm for all cons across the board. E.g. Santa Fe Comic Con here in NM (aka Santa Flush, if you ask me...his cons suck balls anyway, washed up 80's wrestlers FFS) is coming up and the guy in charge is going to be implementing the same policy as PCC (like that's going to keep every one safe).
Ok, that's fine....but think about this: How easy would it be to smuggle in a weapon or 12 in your Fett? Let alone most other costumes? At some point down the road, I promise you that's going to happen. And when it does, practically all cosplay is going to get banned. Just my $.02

I won't ever complain ( out loud) about charity events having no weapons policies ( although I think it is lame). But for a con I certainly will and prob won't go. I grew up with some of the most realistic cap guns out there. Rode around on my bike with Uzis/Mac10s and never got shot. The world is not a more violent place now than it was 10,20 or 400 years ago. There is just way more news coverage.

I did just order my replacement gun for Wizard World Philly and Awesomecon ( if I go).

So true!! I had water guns that looked identical to an UZI. All toy guns back then looked real. People have gone mad. There was a story a few years ago where a child got suspended from school for eating parts of his pop tart to make it look like a gun.

My local con, AwesomeCon DC is going to release an update this week. I can only imagine it's related to the PCC incident.

I had heard it is going to be pretty tight and not to even think about bringing my Uzi. I was considering going Saturday/Sunday. May just wear my Left Shark costume I guess... unless Could be mistaken as a real shark

Haha! I'm hoping to bring my rubber EE-3. To be honest, it seems as though the weapons check of all the cons and formal events I've been to is far too lax. On too many occasions those tasked with checking simply trust me when I say whats in my Pelican case. I feel that if time were taken to properly check guests for actual weapons then everything would be fine. I'm probably oversimplifying since I've never had to undertake that job. However, I'll admit that I am growing more and more frustrated with the lack of thorough inspections at events. When I think of how many people attend these cons, it upsets me to think that someone could seemingly easily bring in a real weapon and harm others. The answer isn't to ban prop weapons from cons, it's to do a better job up front where people are entering. It's not full proof of course because there could always be some crazy out front of the con similar to the attacker at the Ariana Grande concert last month. Sigh...why do people have to be so awful?

I'm all for security checks of everyone. The sad reality is, if someone wants to do damage or inflict harm, they will do so with or without a costume.. In these venues it just makes bringing an actual weaponin easier. Although without metal detectors I can tuck quite a few pistols in my waistband and achieve the same effect ( tried it at home with a pile of guns I had cast ). Bombs are easy to hide , chemicals and firearms as well. Some people just suck really bad.
