so? i get about 20 a day of those.

So?

not everyone may be as unfortunate as you as to recive 20 of those a day and might quite easily make the misstake of clicking on the link if they recive such a letter for the very first time..

Thanks for the heads up Al13ns.

common sense should tell you not to click on any links send to you by email. be it from your bank, your phone company, paypal, ebay, whomever. you get warned about those phising emails on a daily basis, be it through television or on the net.

These scams are not old news to everyone out there yet. I know people who are not computer savvy enough to realize the difference. Just because I know the difference doesn't mean I assume everyone does. Even if one person reading the post learns something they didn't know before that makes it worth while in my opinion. The more people know about these scammers the less success the scammers will have and then maybe the &%$%&^! will go away.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah this isn't breaking news, but people should realize they should ignore this stuff.

If a guy walked up to you on the street wearing a 'paypal' shirt and said "Hey I need to confirm your identity can you give me your social # and D/L" you sure as heck wouldn't do it.

A good heads up for the way too trusting but I know most of us hit 'trash' on this stuff daily

wow daily? i know about those scam emails, but this' the first time i receive the paypal scam...so i'll just keep it...wonder if i go there and fill-in the fake account id and password, maybe they'll just accept it.
anyway, i just share what i got...

its a practice called "phishing". If anyone is unaware or unsure:confused what phishing is please look it up on wikapedia and educate yourself.8)

I had this happen to me about a year and half ago, and also posted the same warning, but as was stated before, If you're not sure about the source go to the site and check your inbox. I never trust anyone contacting me at my personnel addy when they claim to come from a company website. C

It can be deceptive for sure. They can use your correct full name, or other info that is gathered from spyware.

Do go anywhere in the email, just delete it. You can get a virus, from just clicking a link. Even if you just click a link to look at it, and then close it, it can infect your computer. Never click on a link, never download an attachment.

If you ever get a "pop-up" and there is a "yes" button or a "cancel" button. Don't click it, click the x in the right top corner or go down to the botton of your screen, right click on the toolbar, and then hit "close"

You should first forward it to paypal, this is from their security center:

If you think you’ve received a phishing email:
1. Forward suspicious emails to spoof@paypal.com
2. Delete the email

Be on the safe side
Go to the My Account tab and click History to check your transaction history for inaccuracies.

I've had these before and allways forward them, it does help them if they know where they're coming from.

Always view the headers on suspicious emails. You can compare them to a known good email from paypal. If any doubt, forward to spoof@paypal.com, this goes to paypal. Just simply ask if its a legit email, they usually get back within a day or 2. I have also gotten a lot of these, claiming to be from ebay. Once again, just forward to spoof@ebay.com Oh, and on those popups, I have seen the x in the corner be a trigger for a virus as well. Right click and close in the taskbar is the safest way to go.

It is a wicked "world wide web" indeed. Another tip is when you go to paypal, make sure that there is an "s" behind the http
the address link should always read
https://www.paypal.com/

As far as scams that we all should already know about, there is always something new to someone. There are plenty of people worldwide still being scammed. It is easy to be deceived at times. There are many factors involved.

dont answer it at all, even with fake info. never reply to them at all either.... they'll just sell your email as one that works and you'll start getting similar emails from all kinds of things like ebay, large banks, etc.

on the topic of that though, there is a website where people respond using hotmail/gmail accounts they make specifically for screwing with "Nigerian Scam" type emails lol. Fun stuff.

and I have to agree, there is no reason what so ever to be a jerk to someone, volker, who was just trying to help other people not fall for something. There are young people who visit this site who may have never heard of phishing or are just too trusting, and now maybe they learned something. As thumper from Bambi said.. if you cant say nothin' nice, don't say nothin at all.

That's my little Wolfie, you are a sweetheart!

Another point to remember is that Paypal will always address you by your name...phishing emails won't.

I get this email about once every 2 to 4 months. :) And always forwarded to Paypal.

Anyhow, thanks again Herry. Every little bit helps. :cheers

Well the paypal you got there is a scam.
But for your notice.

https = Secure website. If it does not have Https when you logg into paypal then the website is not secure and its a big risk you get scammed.

However they probably wrote it and its probably and html text with a link to another adress bellow.

Paypal NEVER write DEAR Paypal customer.
They usually use your full name.

ADVICE! Therefore NEVER use a email to your paypal with your full name.
Its easy to pick it up and use it against you.

Also if you get emails from paypal asking for your info, name account its fake.

THE BEST ADVICE!
  • Never press the link that is sent to you pr email.
  • Always enter the url directly to paypal your self.
If there is a case or a issue it will be listed in your profile anyway.

For all fake emails send to spoof@paypal.com
