My Vintage SW Colection...

I started a new thread from this one...
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=25462

Well here are some of the REAL SW toys I was talking about.... (smiley added so readers know I'm joking around.)
I can't take credit for all of these, this is a collection of mine and my brother, it is all at his place cause I don't have the heart to split it all up.
And cause i'm into full size SW stuff anyways... Many of our original figures are gone.
We never really had many SW toys, my mom could only afford a few and those are the ones that meant the most to me... She worked at a major Dept. store so we saw ALL the SW toys you could imagine....
I even remember seeing the very hard to find utility belts...I wanted the Luke one so bad...but my mom said no.(the following 3 pics are the ones I saw waaayy back in the day) I think these go for $5000 mint. DOH!

Anyways I guess this is why I ONLY love original SW toys... My mom, she worked her butt off and still tried to make us happy... I miss being a kid.

Well on to the pics...these are just items we bought.
I guess you could say were buying all the ones we never had...lol.

I cant lie, i do have a FEW new SW items BUT only a select few that make the cut...so enjoy the pics.

Holly thats like, 80's all over again you should get an old style TV ( gaint box wood grain) to match hahaha.. great collection! love how you've kept it all old style!

AWESOME COLLECTION! :love

I love seeing all the vintage graphics and packaging! I guess for me, as a packaging designer, it's always interesting to see how the bilingual typography is handled. Also, as a side note regarding some of the history surrounding all the "STAR WARS" packaging and graphics, it was done by a design firm called LPK in downtown Cincinnati up until 95' when Hasbro bought out Kenner. I worked for them a for a few years, unfortunately it was well after the "SW" hey day! :cry I was told of all the prototype figures just lying around, "Rocket Firing Boba Fett" figures, etc. etc., you name it! There was a Design Director there that was also a huge "SW" freak and scooped it all up when it was still lying around the office years after they didn't have the business anymore. He said he made a pretty decent chunk of change selling it to collectors and kept the rest for himself. He actually gave me a few 4x5 color transparencies of photo shoots that were done for the various "SW" toy lines. As a matter of fact, the Kenner building was only 2 or 3 blocks away and that's where the "Pre-Pro 3 Boba Fett Photo Shoot" was done, that then was used on all the 3 3/4" and 12" figures, pretty crazy cool history. 8)

THX for sharing a life's worth of collecting! (y)

:cheers

I own a few vintage Star Wars items. Not like your collection, though (I'm so envious!) Darn, if only I had been born 20 years earlier.
Would you mind if I posted my collection?

*users jaw drops*

Wow..thank you for sharing your collection.
30 years ago I had no CLUE that SW toys where being sold in in different countries.
I still remember in the small town I grew up in getting my weeks allowance to walk or ride my bike down to the "five and dime" to get two of the SW figures a week until I had one of each that they had in on the shelve.
If I wanted anything else we have to drive almost 40 miles to the nearest Mall to find something like the X-wing and Tie Fighter ship. That or order it from the Sears&Roebuck or JC Penny catalog.Which is how I was able to get most of the SW toys I got.
I always enjoy just looking at the old SW toys packages,I guess it brings me back to a time I will never get to live again in my life.
Thank you

uhhh...I think WOW is a bit of an understatement!! I would love to have those 2 ESB Lukes!!! Were my favs as a kid & still are...(except for Fett of course) Awesome collection!!!!
D

If I knew then what I know now as a collector, I would have NEVER touched any of the vintage figures my brother and I had. We had a lot of vintage stuff. But now, all the figure's arms are loose, and the accessories are long gone :( Oh well. I guess that is life as a child, right?

Great collection, some cool stuff there! (y)

I wish I had kept all of my figures when growing up, but I sold them at a garage sale years and years ago. :( I have very few SW figures now...just the odd Vader and Stormtrooper ones. I already collect the Toybiz LOTR figures, so I'm SOL as far as the wife is concerned when it comes to collecting another line of figures.

nice!

you dont happen to have this one do you? I've been looking for a high rez picture of the photograph itself. Can you help out if you do?

Arturo...I'll ask my bro, and i'll do the best to get the holster, if we have that figure. ;)

Edit... I just got off the phone, he got rid of it. ( He does that some times to improve the colection) sorry bro.

Arnold
My Bro found me this.. google toysrgus, then do a search.(the pic on the site is better!)
You can see the extra pocket.

A great reference site for vintage Star Wars is www.theswca.com (this is Gus' site, used to be www.toysrgus.com) You won't find a more definitive archive of vintage, foreign and prototype Star Wars collectibles.

The rebelscum forums ( www.rebelscum.com ) is another great source for vintage and modern collecting.

If it's okay, I'll put my carded set up later. Just a few away from a full set of figs on their debut cards (wedding got in the way, I'll finish up after I'm done being poor).

Wow, fantastic collection. I hope you bro has insurance on it, there are a lot of dollars there. I still have quite a few vintage figs, most of mine are POTF and newer.

some nice pieces. but let me ask you this. because you don't like new star wars stuff, only your's are REAL toys? I don't think so. I have been collecting stuff since day one in 1977, but I enjoy new and old stuff, and i would never talk down another collectors stuff. i picked up vinyl cape jawas in 77, and still some of my favorite pieces are new items. and there is a whole lot more to collect aside of regular retail products. getting prototypes and samples is a whole lot more time consuming and costly then walking into a store and picking up regular figures. again, you have some nice pieces and kudos to you for keeping them close to your heart.

@seeker, i have a cardback of a bespin guard somewhere where we could get a better look at the holster, i totally forgot about that one. i see if i can dig it out. cause all my toys are cramping up the house, it'll take a while to get to it. i hope we are not going to be up for a rude awakening...

Dude, your totally taking what i'm saying out of context... it's is all in good fun. I like seeing all types of collections...new or old.

And I do state I have some newer SW stuff I like. I too collected all the new SW stuff and was caught in the hype, but we realized why pay for NEW(overpriced flavor of the month, speculators driven figures). sold most of it and decided to buy VINTAGE,
nuff said.

volkerc i'm not going to argue with you about my opinion..;)

I could have argued w/you about your ESB scope mounts on your post but it is your decision if you want to place it on the barrel and not the flash tube...:rolleyes

anyways enjoy

I'm not arguing at all. I'm just trying to understand why you are saying, what you are saying. It's that simple. Just trying to get a feel why some folks think they like vintage better, and why others don't even bother with them. So it's all good. And as far as the clamps are concerned, go argue, that's why i posted that stuff. I try to find out and learn things on a daily basis. There's a vast amount of people here that know a lot more about Fetts costume, or costuming in general. Unfortunately i do notice that not everyone wants to share his knowledge. But the later part of my response doesn't really belong into your collection topic, so I leave it at that.

volkerc... Vintage IMO is more meaningfull for me, I don't mean to sound almighty...lol

so cool.;)

We are all learning about the ins and outs of Boba Fett... :cheers

cheers
