A long time ago (somewhere around 2004ish) I posted on this site several times under this same username. Since then, there appears to have been a forum migration and old accounts seem to have been lost. Shame, but expected. I was in about 10 then.

The only reason I ask is because at some point, a nice gentleman sent me (totally free of charge) a DVD case containing vibration motor, and a CD of sound effects. I can't remember why, but It happened.

It was around this point in my life that I was going through a strange "phase." I had gotten stuck in my brain that I wanted to be a filmmaker. And I wasn't going to wait till college, I wanted to do it NOW. And that thrown in free CD of sound effects inspired me like a fire. I wanted to be an audio engineer. It started me building my own library of sound effects ("Just like Ben Burtt!") and got me deeper into my newly found fascination with motion pictures.

Years later, I'm an award-winning filmmaker. My interests changed from audio to visual, I'm a grip on film sets and a freelance cinematographer. And as far as I'm concerned, if I could go back in time and tell myself where I'd be by now, my little head would explode.

There's no way for me to log into such an old account, the wayback machine is no help, so I'm simply asking if any of you remember doing this. This simple gesture of kindness helped spark my imagination and change my life. It helped find my life's goal.

I still have all the original sound effects in my library.

If you are this person, please let me know. I'd love to do what I can to repay you. If you come to Chicago, I'd like to shake your hand.

    Thank you all

    Very cool story!
You wouldn't happen to be connected to Flashpoint Academy would you?

If there's tons of cash involved, it was me.

J/K man, I'm glad you realized a dream. Many people give up way to early.

Hi, and welcome back! Is your name Andy? You can dig through some of your old threads on Google with this query, "jangoboba" site:thedentedhelmet.com. Some of the user names in the old threads may refresh your memory, although many of them have moved on.

There's no user in the database for those old jangoboba posts any more, but it's not impossible to link the posts back up to the new user name.

Firstly on being able to live your dream, and secondly for thanking the one who helped you.
I truly hope that the person who helped you out sees this thread.

    Best wishes

My name is Andy. Good idea too, I'm searching those to see if anything comes up. I think it may have happened all via PM though.

And I'm not directly connected to Flashpoint, but I know people going there. It's a good school, with a different approach.

    Thanks everyone!
