Hello fellow Dent's
Recently I was cheated out of some dough by a seller on ebay. he never sent me my tk thigh armor. I was curious if anyone knows this person Karline-2000 from ebay. If you do please contact me, if you don't and see his star wars item online; watch out. The short version of this story is that I won the auction back in oct. of last year. He kept replying to my emails saying he'd send me a second set due to the first set being lost. After waiting a really long time, i asked for a refund. This when he decided to disappear. The phone number is disconnected and i have not heard from him since the beginning of jan. This is incredibly upsetting since i feel powerless to do anything. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Paypal or nothing. If an auction doesn't allow me to pay with Paypal, I'm very skeptical. Hopefully you used them, if so, you'll get you're money back. Good luck.

Hi, I am having the same experience. Bought it in Nov 2007, didn't get the item and I contacted him. He said he'd check, this process past 60 days. In late december 2007 to early Jan 2008, he replied that he is on holiday and will get back to me when he returns. But after waiting for about one and a half week,I filed a dispute over at ebay, he did not reply to my dispute via ebay. Then I send him an e-mail and he did reply about a week ago.

The story is that his stuff was stolen by a postal worker especially for international orders. He says he is going to send me a replacement, about a week ago. I am keeping my fingers cross and giving it a chance. I think I will contact him to see if he has sent it out.

Paypal and ebay has a 60 days limit. Any purchase that are 60 days old, you can't even file for a dispute. I tried this yesterday for another item, a Hellboy bust from canada.:confused But at least I had the tracking by post.

And ... even if they try to recover your funds with "Buyer Protection", there is only so much they can do. For instance, when I was cheated on a snowtrooper armor set from Australia a couple of years ago, there were two things that threw a wrench in the works ... #1 - over seas. Pay-pal can recover funds for you, but if the seller is over seas, it's more difficult. #2 - the seller didn't have enough left in his bank account that was linked to pay-pal ... a lousy $125 out of $450 ! That's what they recovered for me. they wiped out his account, and told me that if more funds become available, they would attempt to recover the rest. Obviously, the seller closed that bank account, and I never saw another dime.

So, the moral of the story is ... don't feel overly confident about pay-pal's buyer protection program. it only works flawlessly, SOME of the time.

Good luck with this man ... I know it's no fun

If you used funds from your credit card you can call MC or Visa or whoever and they'll do a chargeback. Nothing paypal can do about it. That's why now I buy everything online with the credit card unless it's someone like FP or that I know personally.

Hey FP,

Was the guy who stooged you with the Snowtrooper armour over here in Australia named Bentley O'Toole, or on ebay as Exentric1 or Bent_10 or something of the similar combination.. has many profiles and lots of star wars stuff, as well as a cylon armour set and a few other things...?

If so, he is the one who screwed me out of a good $1000.... all recast **** and shoddy work... lucky im a fibreglass repairer or id have had no chance at getting my stuff to work...

Hey Dent's,
Thanks for all your support. Unfortunately I trusted the seller and waited too long to act. There is a certain amount time that ebay, and paypal allots for protection.

Darth cloud, you should pursue him to return your money if he is talking to you. I find it pretty convient all international orders are being stolen.:confused

...any who...I"ll update ya if anything turns up.
thanks

did you use a credit card as your funding source? if you did there's no time limit. the CC company takes it from paypal, not from the seller and then PP is the one screwed, not you.

Me too. I will let you know the progress and hope all turns out well. I just hope what he says is true. I didn't want to affect his ebay feedback with out giving him a chance....

Now, bent10_4 I think.... sad he is creating a bad reputation for his country so much so that good prop collectors in his country will be affected in one way or another.:angry

Sorry to read about this issue. There was recently an alert on the 501st forums about this seller. So when I saw the seller's name in the title, I knew this was going to be bad.(n)

I'm all for giving someone a chance, but 31/2 months is a lot ridiculous. From my perspective, having spent almost 14 years in law enforcement, the man is taking advantage of you. I would contact some 501st members from the UK garrison and have them pay this schmo a visit if they can find him......patience is one thing but it's about time to re-enact a scene from Goodfellas on his sorry little.................you get the picture. Make no mistake about it, this guy is trying to take you for a ride. For your
sake, I hope I am wrong.

As far as affecting his feedback, who cares. If he starts to get negative feedback and people don't buy his stuff, maybe he will feel motivated to ship in a timely manner....either that or he will just stop selling. Either way, the probelm gets solved IMO.

Good luck bro.

I lost some money on Bentley O'Toole. He does know how to work the paypal system.

Paypal isn't all that it claims and that is why I ended up dropping them. If you file a claim within the time period, the seller can drag their feet until the last possible day and ship the item. Now they have proof they sent it (all but extremely late). My item arrived broken. The original claim was item was not sent. They closed that because now...60+ days later...they have proof of it being sent. I was honest and said it was received but broken. Paypal did not care as long as they had "item delivered" and would not let me open another claim for broken.

It was fiberglass and although I am less than happy with the quality, I was able to fix it so it is usable for what I needed.

Hi,

I got received a reply from Karline-2000 via ebay. Message says that the items recovered were quite messed up and he has to send me a new one. And he will furnish me the tracking number. Hope I don't get a messed up broken item if and when I receives it.

Notwithstanding the above development. I am giving this vendor the benefit of doubt as a con or rip off; When I asked questions on the item and requested some simple custom modifications to be done, he rejected my request. Here, he risk me not buying the item if my request is not met. Therefore, if he had planned to collect money and not send the item, he would agree to everything I requested.

I am not defending him but just the reasons that led to my decision to give it a chance for a happy ending for all.

Who knows, maybe I am wrong. A group of us at armortek forum was ripped off by giving a vendor in the UK, chance, and exercised patience.... but taken advantage of.... tens of thousands of GBP, affecting customers all around the world... vendor played for time..... well life is full of it.

Lesson learned, if delivery of goods is always delayed time and again... buyer beware. Just my 2c.

Peace.

Hi, thanks for the headsup. What was the alert with this dude over at the 501st?:confused

I just dug up the thread to find out what it was all about. While I do not want to quote anything or mention any names, I will just write what it was about. I hate to break this to you, but from what I've seen posted in this thread seems to match the complaint on the 501st forums. The seller is using excuses to delay the shipping time past the cutoff for filing a PayPal complaint (45 days.) Also, the seller made up reasons for not being able to provide a tracking number.

I know it's too late to file a complaint with PayPal, but perhaps a complaint can be filed with the credit card company (assuming you used a credit card to make the purchase.)

What is this world coming to if you can't even trust a guy in costume. hehe, i gotta find some humor in this. He finally did contact me; saying he "forgot about me." He said he would refund me, but I guess we will see. Unfortunately I did not use a credit card. I'm really bummed that this guy is getting away.
