I was thinking...

I got my wife one of those Cricut scrapbooking things for christmas. I just found out that it can be hooked into a PC via USB and there is software that you can purchase so you can cut directly from the PC.

Now after playing with it, you can only use shapes that are in the Cricut software. After a little more research I found another program called SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) that you can "trace any .JPG image and cut it out on thr Cricut.

Now my creative juices started to flow and I was playing. I was able to re-create the kill stripes on Boba's helmet. I have not cut them yet because I have no vinyl to cut with. I then started to think that I could probably export the Pepakura 2D shapes into JPG format and let the machine do the cutting for me...

Does anybody have any experience with this Cricut machine? I just started to dabble with it. Is there anyone that might be able to provide some more insight on this?

My wife has had a Cricut for a few years and I have had the same thoughts as you, but I have never put them to the test.

You can get vinyl from Joanns or Walmart just not the color your looking for. Be careful how small you cut thing I cannot even count how many dots to i's we've lost. I think I found a video to some guy's who build models just like your idea with the pepakura. We've also cut through thin pastic to make baby on board style signs.

Hey thats a great idea. We have one of the Cricut Machines, perhaps I will have to give it a try. Where did you get your SCAL software from? Ive just recently gotten into Pepakura files, and now the Misses wants me to do her up a Zam Costume. So I guess Ive got to do a Zam, Jango and Boba B4 Celebration VI, and I still cant find the software to change .jpg pics into 3D models to import into pep Designer3.
