Guy on eBay recasted my shin tools MOW

he has no grounds to do so ...... infact MOW should take legal action against him

Actually, MOW has no grounds for legal action either since what he's doing; what pretty much every backyard/garage propper is doing is technically illegal. Luckily the Lucas people have been very tolerant, if not, supportive of the Star Wars prop community but when it comes right down to it they're both (WOW and the recaster) are making and selling unlicensed replicas and somehow I don't think that's going to sit very well with a judge. I think that handling it "in house" as it were is the best way to go; he (JediJeffrey) might get a few sales from unknowing buyers but the greater propping community and esp. the 501st & Rebel Legion will know him as a reacaster and nobody in or associated with those communities will ever do business with him. And unless he sells his stuff at a heavy discount I don't he'll be getting enough business to make it worth his while.

good point riceball.
But he still deserves a few negative feedback marks indicating PROOF of recasting.
It's hard work to make our props, I am still working on my first bucket (3+ months now) and that's a custom, so it should be easier than what others have done and recreated in such exacting detail that which is a PERFECT BOBA tribute.

Oh anyway, at least we can avoid his auctions now.

Sorry to hear that Christian :angry

But curious, if this Jedi Jeffery was banned, how come he's on right now ? :confused :facepalm

kudos to the boards for its hardline stance on recasting and fast action.

the fact that we all thread a fine line of legality is the main argument that a recaster uses as everytime to justify his/her actions.

education of newcomers to teh hobby and a supportive community is the only way to combat a practice that will (unfortunately) be part of this hobby.

we can only hope that shin tools are the only thing in his possession that he is able to pour rubber on!

Good Morning everyone..

Let me just start by expressing my gratitude for everyones support and opinions in this matter..I'm sad to say that VR/JJ may have had a case to stand-on. He contacted me late last night quite upset but felt he had done nothing wrong and was being unjustly targeted.

I explained what had happened to a fellow member just this morning. Here's the PM.

Thanks for your help..

I received something similar from him as well...When I replied with a pm it was frozen by the administration..They had already permanently banned him.

Here's the thing...I'm not an unreasonable guy. What I tried to share with him was this: "If you feel your justified and no wrong doing was done then by all means share your thoughts with TDH and clear up the air" That's the easiest and mature thing to do!? These guys instead go on a freak'n rampage and burn everything to ash! He went and attacked the administration with threats of violence and legal action I was told. What did he expect was gonna happen!? They drown themselves ?

Thanks for the pm,

Christian

Sheesh, that sucks!

Recasting is a bane for us all. Thank you for bringing this matter to our ears. Perhaps some individuals can now order theirs from you, instead of recasters.

It really is a shame that we cannot inform everybody out there about this. Unfortunately, until he ceases to recast your work Christian, there will be someone who does not know anything about this, but just wants to buy quality work for his/her Boba suit.

This really is a thing to bring up. I had a proposition from a friend quite a while ago, when I bought Judge Dredd Lawgiver Mk 2 (the comic book version) on the ebay. My friend, ignorant of what he was saying, said that I could take a mold of the gun, and start selling them. Now, I COULD do that. No problem on that.. But, as I explained VERY thoroughly to my friend, it would make me a recaster, and I will NEVER want that. I'll be happy to purchase quality work from the artisan who made it, not from a jerk who just copies someone for his own profit. And yes, I do download music from the net, and then, if I like it, I'll go and buy the record and delete the loaded music. It is always best to buy things from the original source. The quality is ALWAYS better. And so is your conscience..

I hope your case clears out for your benefit.

I just checked it out, fortunatly, they dont appear to be. I just compared them to both of MOW's ESB and ROTJ, significant differences, so they aren't his, at least.

Looks like he's moved on to recasting Chuck's Ruffkintoy's gauntlets. Good to see he's diversifying versus screwing over just one prop maker....

Guys,

It's time to lay off Vader-revealed..He contacted me a few days ago and claims he has tossed the remaining shin tools in the trash..He's also explained to me that he purchased them from another source who he has given hell too for his deception. I appreciate everyones support and concern in this matter and am very grateful. "Thank you very much" !

p.s. Not my gauntlets! :rolleyes

Laying off of him is good; but truth be known their are a lot of people already aware and continually watching before this incident ever took place.

The gauntlets really look like Ruffkin´s

But the best thing is that this community is really active (y) and recasters are having fun only at a short time...

I haven't been on this site for a while, now, but I just ran across this thread and I personally have known Jeff for years. He is a fine, good natured person and a man of honor who would give the shirt off his back to a total stranger. I am disheartened to read about the things that were said here. As for the legal action bit, I'm willing to bet the farm that there is some misunderstanding as is this entire thread.

For what it's worth and for the few of you who know me well, I personally vouch for Jeff's character and I know that for some reason, there are people out there in the prop community, even over at RPF, who have dragged his name through the mud. This is the kind of guy that bends over backwards for friends and gives so much of this time and talents for free and stays away from clicks. He has a love of Star Wars and I've seen him make things and just give them away. He's not one of those prop builders that's in it for profit. Maybe this is why some people don't like him. I just don't know. I've seen him accused of things, but never saw concrete proof of any allegation. Color me baffled for sure.

:confused

I understand what you are saying, but you need to understand why the administration responded as we did. This was the FIRST communication we received from Jeff in the form of a reported post to the administration:

this is a slanderous post, remove it immediately or i will take legal action. I am also a licensed corp. I'm not kidding.
JEFF

Immediately followed literally 5 minutes later before we even had a chance to respond:
If it's still up tomorrow then it's too late.
JC KINDALL
PPROPLASTIC.LLC, RENO NV

So, when a member doesn't even give us a chance to try and help him but immediately comes to us threatening legal action, he leaves us with no other choice but to ban him. We have a ZERO tolerance for threats of legal action against TDH. If he would have come to us and reported the posts and asked us to look at the situation because he felt he was being slandered, then we would have been a bit more willing to look into the situation and not immediately ban. While the outcome may have been the same, the process would have been different.

Hi Mirax,

I understand your position and I respect that completely. I'm left to wonder about the possibility (and it really wouldn't surprise me) of Jeff being impersonated. I know that his ebay account has been hacked into before because someone sold a motorcycle using his account. At the time he didn't even know it happened until the "buyer" emailed Jeff wondering where the bike was. Jeff had to fix that one to prevent further hacking.

If someone can hack into his ebay account, it is entirely possible that his TDH account was hacked and he was impersonated. If that is the case, the imposter should have known that Jeff does not own any companies (He works with foster children in a foster/adoption agency), much less any limited liability company dealing with plastic. Furthermore he does not live in or do any business in Reno, Nevada. He lives down the highway from me.

I've been to his garage many times in the last several years and I've seen his work. I've never heard of Ruffkin's gauntlets, but the gauntles being referred to above, he made himself and it took him a long time. Perhaps it's possible that as builders reach top quality nearing perfection, it is likely that they begin to resemble each other. I don't know. I'm not much of a prop guy, myself, but I know what Jeff is capabale of building.

Jeff didn't even know he was banned from here until he tried logging in as a result of what happend with this shin tool incident. Anyway, forgive me for stirring the pot a little, but if there are people out there who have it in for Jeff, then there deserves to be some kind of inquiry, especially if the author of the above quoted statements that you shared were the result of hacking and impersonating, assuming they originated from his IP address. Certainly the possiblity exists. It's just not like Jeff to pm the admins irrationally when he'd rather just give something for free, to satisfy a customer rather than to part with hurt feelings as he has been known to do in the past. That's just the kind of guy Jeff is. Anyway, thanks for indulging me.
