Gauging Interest in Mandalorian Culture and Mando'a

Well I am of the mind that the loins share of people here to create a really good costume would rather spend available time working on the costume rather than learning the language. I dont get it that you were run off the Mercs board guys there post blurbs in it all over the site.

One thing I will also comment on is stating that you posted under a different name here before, then saying you werent going to reveal it, along with all the talk of IP address banning gives me an uneasy feeling. There is the feeling of blatent advertising here almost a slick approach spam thing. Books about Mando's are readily available and easy to find on the web for free. The posting under fake names is enough for me to be put off at the get-go. Now that said follow me on this coming to TDH and posting a thread about the parts of Boba/Jangos suits and equipment and weapons and the names of them "in" Mando's sounds very interesting and cool and I feel is a better "Hello" from you than the one so far. Just to clarify, nobody was "run off". The problem is that the Mando'a dictionary is owned and copyrighted by Lucasfilm Ltd. and to use it for a public project across the web like this requires Lucasfilm LTD. permission. I personally directed MandoaOrg to a LFL employee who can give that permission, and normally it's not an issue to get permission.

I think that learn some words or expressions is OK. "Helmet", "Armor", "Man", "Woman", "Gun", "Happy Birthday", "Well done", "Good", "Bad"... things like that are OK. But I will never put effort in learning anything else. There are some charts with these kind of things already, so... I am not interested in anything else.

Good luck ;)

I thought as much, the Mercs site isnt in the practice of running people off for sure. Thank you for clearing that up. Copyright issues are no joke.

Alright, sorry I was gone for all that. My laptop died and is in the shop, since it needs a new mainboard. I got permission from LFL to continue my project as a non-profit fan website, which is how I intend to operate. I have changed the copyright statement in the page footer to their specifications, and I'm good to go for now.

As for being "run off" from MandoMercs, that was hardly the case. They just required me to get official permission before they would allow me to continue flaunting my website on their forums. I wouldn't want to get them in trouble with LFL, so I complied. I see that I didn't explain myself properly above, and for that, I apologise. I meant to cast no ill light on MandoMercs.

In any case, the website is up and available for anyone who wants to use it. Anyone who prefers using the .xls or the Wookieepedia article has every right to continue using their favourite tools. I'm not claiming mine's the best tool for the job; it just happens to be the tool that I use, and I wanted to share it with the community. :)

Was that Sarsh'kasim? =P
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was a friendly jab. :)

As for whether Jango spoke Mando'a or Huttese to Boba in AoTC, I'm pretty sure the language wasn't well-developed enough (or developed at all) by then for anyone to be using it for anything, least of all in the movies; that definitely lends more credence to the Huttese theory. Besides that, I have only seen AoTC twice, so I can't pick a side here, having no memory of what was said in the film. :p

I'd be glad to watch it again and confirm one way or the other, but somehow I doubt it would be necessary, nor that it would matter.

MandoaOrg, I've put a link up to your dictionary in the Mercs forums. Glad you received permission, and I figured it would be pretty painless. :)

Oh? Where is it? I wasn't aware and posted a new thread about it in the Lounge this morning. :p

Thank you.

<EDIT>
I found it. Thanks again! I've been stickied in the MandoMercs Links subforum! :D
