ESB or ROTJ

TD2479

New Hunter
As a newbie to the Fett world I'm ready to start my Boba project. Is it just preference for ESB & ROTJ? At the moment I'm siding towards ESB because it's my favourite film. Some feedback on bobamaker would be great as I would like to keep my project in the UK so as not to bump the shipping fees up. Any help would be great. As an MEPD SWAT member I have my TD very up to grade.

Hi mate,
Welcome to the TDH! I'm fairly new here myself.
ESB is my favorite film also, but I decided to go with ROTJ basically because I liked the colour scheme better!
I got my armour from RS Props. They're also located in the U.K. I'm very happy with it!
All the best with your project!

I've had a look at RS, his kit looks great. Is your kit 501st cleared?

Hi Marc,
Welcome! Bobamaker's stuff is top notch. His helmets and armor are fiberglass pieces and are pre-trimmed and even primed.
So they're pretty much ready to paint right out of the box.
From what I've read, he's no longer in the UK. I believe he now lives in Portugal. So you can consider that if shipping costs are
a concern.
Since his gear is so popular, you might be looking at a notable wait time as well. He produces a lot of different parts, and is
constantly adding to the kits he produces. I've seen recently that he's working on a new Snowtrooper kit. So you shouldn't
expect your items to be produced and shipped "overnight."

This is my opinion, although it's based on personal experience. I've owned 2 BM helmets and a set of his ROTJ armor, as
well as several of his soft parts.

I ordered the fully finished kit from them.
When it came time for 501st approval, there were two issues. The first was with the amount of weathering on the cape. Easily fixed. The second was with the colour of the upper cheeks on the helmet. RS painted them black, but according to the CRL, should be a blue/green colour. I sprayed over them with Tamiya XF17 Sea Blue and was approved. Waiting time is quoted as 6 months, but mine took a little longer. Other than that, very happy overall.

Hey Marc,

Welcome from another n00b from across the pond! It seems to be a personal choice, although rooting through the older posts there is an air of superiority from those who favor ESB. I'm going for RotJ as it will match the period of my Vader kit, since the mannequins will eventually stand side by side.

I looked seriously at BM's gear, and was impressed by the accuracy. While I eventually went elsewhere, judging from the comments in this thread and elsewhere, his equipment is top shelf.

Cheers,
Rob (dv8r)

Hey Rob,
Not sure which specific threads you're talking about, but there is a lot of playful back and forth regarding the ESB version. To my knowledge, no one here is really serious when they "put down" another version. In my experience it's all been friendly, humorous, banter.

That being said, ESB Fett is FAR superior to any other version. ;)

so then why are you doing a holiday special Fett???? BAAHAAHAAHAAAAAAA jkjkjk ESB for LIFE!!
Bryan said it best, no one around here will ever bust your balls over any version you pick to idolize other than in good, clean fun. to each his own. building any Fett, you must have ...the deepest commitment, the most serious mind... that alone generates respect. it takes balls committing to a Fett suit and even more to wear it. the decision is not made lightly so do your research and make a choice based on what YOU prefer and remember no one will ever tell you can only build one Fett :)

@ dv8r, if anything i would say that ...there is an air of superiority from those who favor Boba Fett! LOL kidding :)

Agreed -- Totally true and my apologies for giving any other impression. Nearly everything I've seen here is good-natured and helpful, even the "rivalries". And being from the "other camp", even I admit Boba in ESB is more inspiring than the bloke defeated by a half-blind nerf-herder with a stick.

I have always been fond of ESB. I am building a ROTJ SE. I am growing to like the ROTJ helmet too.

But the thing that always amazes me is if I think back to being a kid playing with my action figures in 1980...........Boba Fett had one red gauntlet and one yellow gauntlet. And a bluish jet pack with a red rocket. So if my inner kid pics a suit it is probably Pre Pro 2.

Growing up it is funny that I never saw the differences I always saw the similarities on Boba Fett. He was Boba Fett. But now as a man in my 40s I see all the beautiful differences.
