Costiming Club!

DigitalArtMan

New Hunter
Hi all,

WOW where do I start you guys inspired me so much with your AMAZING work! I am new to register but have been keeping up with the forum for a few months now. Some of the things here are breath taking in the detail down to the putting "dirt" into the crevices of your armor and helmets. Anyways you all inspired me to go out and find a local costuming club. What they do is they pick one movie/game and make costumes for that movie/game for an entire year. Ending up with tons of cool armor, weapons, props, and many more things. Unfortunately there is a join fee because as I am sure all of you know this is an expensive hobby. (That's what I was told :p ) Unfortunately being in college myself I can not just pull $300 out of my back pocket unless I give away my Peanut-Butter & Jelly's and starve. So I decided I would put up a post just to ask if some of you would donate little bits of money  to help me join this costuming club. Any little bit counts so I would be super happy if even one or two of you could donate maybe $10.  If that is too much for you that is fine I do not specify how mush you have to donate. Here is the link : Donate

Thank You to all who donated and please leave a comment \/Below\/

Best Regards,

is it just me, or is anyone else a bit offended by this? This is on the level of me posting a topic saying "Hey I want a sweet Boba Fett suit, but can't afford it, so can you all give me some money to buy one?" One I've never heard of a costuming group charging a "join fee" especially if you was going to be buying and using your own mats to make the items you were going to be using, again it's like TDH saying "Give us cash and we'll let you build your own suit." The whole thing smells of tauntaun. But again maybe it's just me.

I would say this is just someone wanting free money. I wanted a top quality costume, I am earning it like everyone else here. Get a job and earn the money yourself, mate. I don't think ANYONE here will donate. I also don't believe you have been keeping your eyes on the forum for a few months, this is your first post and you joined... oh look... in September 2011.

It's not just you, mandosoldier. This post seems unecessary and just plain weird to me. Seriously, pay a fee to join a costuming club? There's an alarm going off in my head...

Seriously though this post is is hard to take. I didn't really believe that someone would post this. When I first read this I wanted to post but not being on here for very long I was waiting for someone with more experience to post a comment.

This community is built on goodwill and sharing of ideas and helping people out. We all have our own financial limitations so we do what we can. I tried building a helmet from cardboard and bondo with fail so I saved my pennies and bought a helmet from Asok. If I had less funds my determination might have been stronger. I'm also working on my armor from trash cans(Fettfullofdollars) as I can't afford Fett Pride armor just yet. Yeah I'm saving my money for that. I have a little can with "Star Wars Fuds" wrote on the side. My cape came from an old piece of scrap canvas I found that I had to paint to a close correct color until I can afford one of those wonderful capes from Woodman. Yes, I've got a long way to go on with my costume and it is going to take time and money. Time I have money I don't but with time and saving those extra pennies and working I'll save my money and I'll be able to afford to buy, build, make, trade and get there with my costume. The country I live in was built on the principle of Hard work and honesty. It seems that nowdays though that so many people are wanting something for nothing. I suppose it is the slick fast food DVR generation we all live in. I would love everyone on here to just give me armor, suits, gauntlets, rocket packs and all the extras I need but what satisfaction would I get from this?

I totally understand being in college and not having money. I didn't even have a car for the two years I went to junior college and times were tight for me. I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I understand not having money for a lot of things I grew up poor living with a single mom who worked and helped me get through school. I got a job when I got out of college and now I work for a living. I have earned everything I have and am proud to be able to say so.

My Family and friends come before my Hobbies but it is through my family, friends and a lot of hard work and patience that I able to have my hobbies and will be able to complete my Boba Fett costume with a lot of hardwork and help.

The Dented Helmet is the best Free Club to join for building Mandalorian Armor. Why pay money for a club when you have the worlds best think tank full of free ideas and money saving tips. If you don't have money for a helmet surely you can afford cardboard and glue to make a helmet and start working on the rest of the costume by scratch building it. Look around. There are things right under your very nose that with some work and little creativity that can help you get your costume made. It might not be fastest way but it will be rewarding, challenging and in the end the results will be something that (you) can look back at and take pride in it. Also you could make some great friends along the way in your quest for a Boba Fett costume or you can make a lot of people angry by continuing to post on this site asking for a free hand out.

Best of luck with your college and good luck with your costume.

P.S. If anyone has any free armor, gauntlets, rocket packs, capes, wookie braids, boots, toe spikes, MQ-1 boards, dental files, dental expanders, shin tools, vest led, divers belt, wrist rocket, greeblies, EE blasters, girth belts, cod piece, neck seal, flak vest I'll be glad to take them off your hands. . . . . for Free of course! :)

I hear what you all are saying and completely get it! You all work hard for your money and don't just want to give it away to some guy who just joined the forums and as far as you can tell has no intention of actually making costumes at all. I didn't mean to offend anybody and would like to have a fresh start. If there is a forum moderator he has my permission to completely delete this post. I do not intend to be a little money grabber but I clearly came across wrong.then I stated my story so I have nothing to "Defend" myself for. Perhaps however I could do some work and get payed. As my name suggests I like to do digital art with my Adobe software I enjoy this and would be happy to make Graphics for anybody at a small cost. The one point I would defend myself on is that I have been watching this forum for a few moths "I also don't believe you have been keeping your eyes on the forum for a few months, this is your first post and you joined... oh look... in September 2011." -JayBox325 For your information I can watch a forum without being regstered. Registering only allows me to post and until now I have had nothing of use to post, so why should I go about registering to every forum I watch? Furthermore you yourself have only been registered since last month so I see no weight in your argument. On a closing note I would just like to say sorry for insulting any of you that might have been insulted, as well as repeat my offer to make graphics for anyone that wants one.

Best Regards,
DigitalArtMan

DeathMaster,

Your post is the only post I read that actually looks like someone took the time to give me a hand. I would just like to say thank you for your time to write this encouraging post. I understand that free stuff is not an option and as you will see in the post below I have offered to make custom graphics for anybody that wants one. I enjoyed reading your post and just wanted to say something before my account got banned or something of that sort.

The fact that you took the time to apologize and reply here, proves that you're not a bad person and that you want to get along on the forum. I can respect that. I didn't mean anything to offend you, but that "join fee" seems strange to me. How serious is this costume club? Do they make the costumes for you, or do you have to make it yourself? Because if you have to make everything yourself, I just don't understand the meaning of paying a lot of money just to become part of a group. By posting here, you're part of TDH, and for free! Surely that must be better than paying money you don't have? ;)

Whether or not you will be banned, I wouldn't know. I'm not that into the rules. But for now, welcome to the forum! This costume-business will take a lot of time and money, for everyone, and money will almost always be an issue to many. Me, included. But with patience, I'm sure we all will be able to reach our costume-goals.

So good luck! :)

Thank you DreamWalker I have decided not to join the costuming club after all but i still need some money so my offer about the graphics still stands.

You might want to state you intentions better next time...and not ask for handouts from strangers either. This hobby is not cheap...but possible on a budget. Hang around and research you dont need to create anything by tomorrow and $300 isnt going to get you far with this either. Most people would be hard strapped to help someone theyve never spoke to.

FYI - I have been spending my hard earned money on my suit over the last 2 months on this site paying the hard working people of this site to get me where I am. So referencing how long I have been here is redundant. I have nearly 100 posts, I am getting to be part of the community here and this is about you making your first post... asking for free money from the hundreds of people on here who earned their suits.

However, I am in the exact same boat as you. I am a freelance designer which is all I am using to pay for my suit, so it's not impossible. Just take it one step at a time. I was part of The Bounty Hunters Guild, which is the 501st's official forum, but the resources there all linked to here and the active community is nothing like here.

In terms of your costume, if you are after a replica suit you are looking at the £700+ mark. I was originally planning to do mine for £600 (same cost as the Rubies Fett suit) but I realised it cannot be done. First things first, get yourself a helmet as this is the most expensive part of your armour and will make or break your costume. I have bought a helmet from someone on this forum, Asok. His helmets are Cold Cast and $170 unpainted, which is astonishing value for such a great quality helm.

Anyway, I have blabbered on. Good luck with your build.

Welcome to the forum! I agree with the rest of these guys that asking for money on your first post really is well... not how we do it around here. One tip:
When in Mandalore, do as the Mandalorians do. :p

I'll be honest, I almost deleted this post first thing when I saw it last night with the belief that it may be spam. However I wanted to give DAM a chance to explain himself.

This forum is an excellent resource of individuals and ideas. I would advise that you utilize the information you can gather by reading through threads and also becoming a part of the community. Everyone on here is very welcoming and helpful. Welcome to The Dented Helmet.

Btw; I'm not sure which sounds more terrifying. DarthMater or DeathMaster.

exactly, had you first offered to trade work for a fee, or maybe work for parts, it wouldn't have been as offensive as having a first post basically saying " gimme some money". And also correct is $300 is not going to get you far on a suit, but with saving and some research you can make it go far by learning to make trash can/cardboard armor and doing what works while you save for the quality items. I spent almost a year with SFP parts (just search starfortressproductions for explanation) modding and altering to make it work while I saved and now almost all my gear is quality items from quality people. We're MORE than willing to help here, but we're not gonna give away money.
